Good signing, we desperately need his experience and toughness in the middle.

Now for a class centre and prop.

Watmough is past his best and is just chasing the money now.

He has always been high maintenance and a troublemaker.

Enjoy the petulant child especially his penalties and dropped balls every game. His body is stuffed and will be lucky to last 3 years.

Haha suck those lemons bitch.

Some reports saying it's a 2 year deal with the eels

Manly were reportedly offering him a 2 year extension beyond 2015, so I'd say there's no chance he's here for 2 season. It's 3 years minimum, and maybe longer. He might be a big thicko, but he's probably got a decent manager.

My biggest reservation is that we now might not have the money for Norman's double leg transplant.

Even if he plays 17 games a season over the next two or three years his experience and knowledge alone is worth it. The best value result was that he sign for 2015. If he had of come in 2016 it wouldn't have been worth it. I think Hayne leaving may have managed to push the signing across the line.

We STILL need to sign another quality centre and prop or second row IMO. But the club has moved in the right direction to move on from Hayne.

It's also not just what he does on the field (that's bloody important but), it's also how he handles himself at training, rehab etc - it all helps the younger players.

A quality prop is what we need now, to really fix up our middle.

Hayne's departure means we could have front loaded Watmough, allowing us to pay less in later years or even reduce the length of the contract.

Watmough does 2 things, runs sideways and loses 10 metres Benji Marshall style or stops at the line and does his James Graham/wannabe halfback passing thingy, just catch the ball and run forward please champ, that's all you have to do,no sideways movement or passing from you buddy.

Yup. If he was to come 2016, it would definitely be detrimental.

1. Hoppa
2. Semi
3. Champion
4. Vai/Morgan/...
5. Buretto/Vai/....

Still worried about our backline considering our erratic halves

We need him to mentor our young forwards. He does that and that will be worth far more than what we are paying him.

I'd expect it would be front-loaded given the Hayne situation, at least relative to how the initial offer was structured. But I don't see why we'd reduce the length of the contract. I doubt Watmough would accept a significantly reduced offer so if a 3 or 4 year contract costs us roughly the same then we might as well keep him the extra year.

He makes a hundred metres (forwards) every week. Who cares how much he runs sideways if he's going forward anyway?

A three or four year contract wouldn't cost us roughly the same - the difference would probably be about $400k. Obviously then it would come down to whether Watmough intends to play that final year (or longer) and whether he thinks he could earn another contract if he initially took a year less than he wanted (for more money up front). Obviously both player and club are taking risks with long contracts for 30+ year olds.

Anyway I'd say the difference here is between a two and three year contract rather than between three and four years. We could be offering Watmough $1.2M for two years vs $1.6M for three. And a $400k contract in 2017 won't be as significant a proportion of the salary cap as it is right now.

Anyway it's all speculation. And we'll never know all the facts.
