Who is our third choice half? Probably Kelly if we've retained him. We can also use Takairangi in the halves but if he's established in another position you'd rather not move him.

There is a case to be had for Ryan Matterson as our preferred back up specialist half over Luke Kelly in 2015. He is quite possibly a Top 25 player, if so he can come into first grade without pressuring the second tier cap. If there is a long term injury to Sandow or Norman he might be the best option depending on how he handles the pre-season and/or the opening stages of the NSW Cup.

However Brad Takairangi is probably the best option for short term cover in the halves. If Sandow/Norman have a minor injury, suspension or amazingly find themselves playing rep footy Takairangi is the most likely candidate to wear the vacant #6 or #7.
