Round One prediction:

1. Hopoate
2. Radradra
3. Champion
4. Takairangi (with Morgan as first choice cover for centres)
5. Robinson (with Faraimo as first choice cover for wingers)
6. Norman
7. Sandow
8. Junior Paulo
9. Peats
10. Lussick
11. Watmough
12. Ma'u
13. Edwards

14./18. De Gois / Joseph Paulo (can only see them ever using one of these guys at a time, depending on opponents and game plan)
15. Mannah (would stiffen up our middle 40mins starting from the bench)
16. Gower (could do one prop rotation and one back row rotation)
17. Moeroa (for one back row rotation, Fa'aoso probably needs some Wenty time before he's match ready)

What does de gois offer that peats does not?

And if that forces peats to the back row, what does peats offer us that watmough, edwards, gower et. al does not?

It will be like a Keating-Kingston combo of 09, De Gois playing for 20 mins will be very quick around the ruck.
You keep Peats on there as a roamer (similar to how C.Smith or Farah/Hunt play for Aus) and you just continue to hit the middle with fast dummy half runs and one pass stuff.
Giving one of the second rowers a quick spell isn't a bad thing when you play that type of game.
It worked wonders for the Panthers this year

80 minutes? An ageing Watmough and Gower might be more effective being able to have a break than playing through spells of tiredness for 80mins.

So wouldn't it be better to replsce them with a prop/back rower such as edwards, pauli, wicks, Richie, moeroa etc then moving a hooker to lock?

09??? Why don't we try out the wedge it worked for Parra in the 80's...... And worked for the Panthers??? They only started to look better when Kingston got injured and Segs played the full 80min.

As i said would bringing IDG on improve us from dummy half??? And what does Peats offer in the back row that watmough,Tepai,Edwards,Gower or Mau don't????

De Gois offers Peats 20-30 minutes to catch his breath.

Sure, Peats doesn't NEED a breather, but at the same time, a short stint can often prove very helpful.
Not sure if it is the way I would go - but it is what has been indicated by Arthur.

If we were playing a bash and barge style game plan, then yes. But not necessarily.

With Joseph Paulo no longer in the starting side - and missing the flair of Hayne's second half injections into the attack, the ability to have some extra playmaking ability on the field will be vital for our attack to be a bit less predictable to opposition teams. Especially during the 10 mins either side of half time, where the direction and momentum of the game is often set.

I'd be happy with de gois over seph.

I don't think its a question of what he offers that peats doesn't.

It's what he offers that blokes who might take his spot don't.

De Gois offers experience, attacking thrust, leadership, experience and competitiveness.

Sure, peats offers all that (less experience) but none of those are qualities that we don't more of are they?

He offers Peats a spell. De Gois is easily our second best hooker. Listen, if people can't see that a fresh Peats (ie: playing maybe 60 minutes instead of 80) would be a real asset to this team - well, I just give up.

If people can't see that Peats can do more in 80 minutes than he can in 60 then I give up. What's more the team can do more because they have an extra player on the bench and another couple of interchanges in which to use him.

That i understand, Peats plays above his weight and is a mad merkin and a 20 min rest wouldn't do him any harm at all. What i don't understand is the calls to bring IDG on and then move Peats into the pack which will weaken us from dummy half and in the back row.

This is the way I see it too. I've seen Peats play a very attacking style with Souths. We have lost a huge attacking weapon in Jarryd Hayne. I know defence is important, but we will have to develop a whole new attack next year, and I'm betting that Peats will be one of the major keys to this. But not if he's tackling his arse off for 80 minutes each game.

Yep Peats is a 80min player and our best dummy half, makes no sense to bench him imo.

I can see a case for having De Gois on the bench for some games, but not as a default position. There will be times when we would rather Peats have a break when tired (to reduce the chance of injury), and there will be other times where we have lesser concerns re the size of the opposition's pack.

Also depends what we do with Takairangi.

Well, this year he played 80 minutes each game and worked his butt off and got injured and only played half the year. Whilst his injury may not have been caused by fatigue, it is very well known that fatigue will make a player more likely to be injured. Is it a risk worth taking? And could a fresh Peats be more effective?

If we rest peats for 20 min that is 2 less interchanges we can use for our bigger men who prob need the rest more.
