Hey I know it's been said before , but let's make a deal with Trent Merrin? Would be great to have Sally F amongst the WAGS :D

Sally would be no good for the place. We are trying to get rid of the choker tag. Would be good a root though

She's one eyed Dragons fan from Sth Coast near Nowra, used to be a Stealers fan.

Pauli is unique in that he can defend in the middle and attack on the edge or even wider.

He runs like a back and has a good side step and offload. I would persevere with him, at only 21 he is still learning and the bigger blokes tend to mature a bit later.

You mean like a second rower?

Merrin's on the market for 2016 isn't he? Plenty of clubs would have $800k free for a marquee forward. Maybe even us.

Watmough (even 2016) > Merrin, not worth more then 500k even with the new cap.
This year we will pay approximatly 600K for Watmough and that is the most I would ever spend on a any forward bar a few (eg SBW).

So no one on here has ever criticised a player??? you have never criticised a player or anyone on here??? Get off the high horse champ.

Quit avoiding the topic Hiney.

Merrin is a great 'club level' player, able to dominate a game and be a 'go to guy' inside the attacking 20. Those are the kinds of guys who command big $$$ from clubs. He's young, big, has a high work-rate.

Unfortunately he plays the same position as Watmough, and there is simply no room for 2 highly paid 'locks' (is that right Lingard + Pou?). For the next 3 years I would prefer Merrin on $600k to Watmough on $600k on pure footballing ability, but (a) Merrin wants more than that and (b) Watmough probably fits our situation better - veteran 'lead by example' type who can inspire the young blokes on the field and show them how a championship backrower plays the game. Also line speed in defence!

The problem with Pauli is that word potential. He currently has a number of deficiencies in his game that make him a greater liability than contributor. He could develop into a special player although he may plateau. He has had these same deficiencies his entire junior career. Therefore signing him is a calculated risk for all clubs. Unfortunately for him our stocks on edge are very good with a number of promising juniors also coming through behind Edwards, Moeroa and Ma'u. That would make it highly unlikely we would get in a bidding war for him if another club who wasn't stocked there offered more based on his potential. Then there is the other element noted in today's papers in possibly reducing the interchange for 2016 and beyond. The DT notes it is about reducing the size of players. This obviously would affect a possible market for someone like Pauli. I'm on the fence with this one. Love to see him stay and develop, although get the sense Pauli won't be satisfied biding his time in Cup to develop. We have greater needs as a team that shouldn't see us throw too much at him based on potential and too much depth at the position.

PROBLEM WITH YOUR POST -

Well a few times Pauli played the 80 mins.BA wanted him to push thru.So no NSW cup -straight to first grade and 6 games later playing 80 mins.Something he probably didn't even do in under 20's.So why are people saying he cant play a good 60mins?

He averages 1.4 missed tackles a game-Tepai was 2.5.Sure tepai made more tackles. He beats Tepai in every area bar average tackles.Offloads-tackl breaks-offloads etc......

Stats -

Pauli Pauli compared to other edge forwards -
averages - Tackle breaks - Ranked highest
- Offloads - rank highest
- run meters- 2nd to mau
- Missed tackles - middle of pack

So he steps straight up from first grade.Asked to play a few full games, shows he has more attacking weapons then all our other edge forwards. And proves he can defend ok outwide ( even POu said he proved him wrong and was surprised he defended so well out there)

But some people on here are preferring other options.Im not really sure what more he could of done considering his circumstances.I still remember that bulldogs game where he won it for us.

He can also play prop
