9 weeks is almost half the season thou.
I reckon 6 weeks should be the Max a player can get.

Whilst I don't condone any action that causes injury, Jnr is being punished for being a big man, playing against little men and using the physicality that BA wanted them to improve on this year.

He simply monstered someone that was a lot smaller than him.

And missing 1/3 of the season is too much given that Ballin was not injured.

Was Juniors tackle the worst offence of the round because he copped the biggest base penalty?

There certainly is. Jnr's and Williams' tackles were careless or reckless. An intentional one is where they pick them up and drive them into the ground, which we rarely see now but it still can happen.

Not according to the MRC gradings.

See page 77 of this:
https://www.nswrl.com.au/content/dam/nswrl/documents/Welfare%20and%20Ed/NRLJudiciaryCodeofProcedure2014.pdf

The Elephant has it right in this case.

8 weeks for that is a joke. It's worth contesting, even it it costs Junior an extra week.

Same technique used in many tackles every week, difference here was that it was one on one, and a big man on a smaller - but still quite muscular - man.

Danny Wicks better be raring to go....

Its actually 9 if tries to beat it and fails. And 7 if takes the early guilty plea.
The whole early guilty plea is silly. There time is so important that if you dare ask a question or plead your case you will be further punished?
Its actually 38% of the season.

:?

He grabbed a bloke on one side of his body, and flung him over to the other side of his body, landing him in a dangerous position.
The NRL is on about eliminating players getting thrown. because when someone is thrown, they are out of control and can land awkwardly.

I really hope the grading gets reduced, but there is no need to fling people sideways to be physical ESPECIALLY if you got suspended for doing so recently.

The thing that doesn't work too much in Jnr's favour is that (from memory) the momentum of the initial tackle had subsided and the 'throw' was arguably a second act. It's a bit different from cases where a tackler hits the runner head on and the force of the upturns the runner. Forgetting the rigid structure of the current penalty system, I'd think about 3 weeks all up (including the prior almost identical offense) would be in the right zone.

I think its harsh if he is suspended for that. Yes it may have become a bit dangerous the way the player hit the ground, but he didnt lift him between the legs or make any obvious effort to drive his head into the ground. It was a tackle that just ended up going a little wrong. No suspension, but a warning given IMO. But they will probably give him 3 weeks.

I suspect he'll cop more than that. I hope he doesn't.

Yes, there's no intent....and he didn't lift the player by the legs etc....but his actions put in a place a situation in which the bloke landing on his head was a distinct possibility (doesn't mean it was likely)...and he has been nailed for a near identical tackle last year.

He wont get off the charge IMO. I'd say at this stage (after the initial charge) that if he can get it down to 3 or 4 weeks he will count it as a win.

Agreed, I am sure he will miss some matches but I'm thinking it'll be closer to 3, at least I'm hopeful it will be. My 'No suspension' comment was just what I would do if I was making the decision.

But they seem to be perfectly ok with hanging an arm out chin height on a guy running full ball?

And I remember way back when they wanted to crack down on players throwing punches. I suppose now with Bogan injured certain judiciary members won't want to hurt Jack "Laurie Nichols" Wighton's chances of playing Origin

I disagree with you big time!

It was an intentional effort to fling the guy from one side of Juniors body to the other. He was suspended for the exact same thing last year.
It's dangerous.
He knows he shouldn't do it, and he'll cop time. Hopefully they fight the grading, but he deserves to cop time for a stupid (and dangerous) act.

Paulo was unlucky, saw the same tackle in penrith game and it was fine as player landed safely.

Hasson/Moses tackle was not unlucky, hasson intentionally lead with the knee. And Moses recklessly lead with his arm. Yet both get bugger suspension.

I'm pretty sure a Manly player did one in 2nd half
