Does anyone else think Duckworth-Lewis is outdated in the modern game?

Given that scoring 150+ in the final 15 overs is fairly standard with wickets in hand in today's game.

I think DL now suits the side batting second.

For sure, definitely outdated. Not sure what the alternative would be though.

Even though I go for NZ, it's not hard to feel a little for SA. Big disadvantage.

The other thing D/L doesn't seem to take into consideration enough is that with only 43 overs to bat NZ doesn't necessarily need to consolidate wickets as much as you would in a 50 over game.

We saw the Windies make 250 in 30 odd overs in the quarter final just going for it from the start. They were never going to win and lost wickets in the process, but the less overs there are the more wickets become less of an issue for the batting side.

Why do we even need to go 43overs.... Let's just go the whole 50...

We have lights... We have a reserve day...

Having said all that, if they get 10-15 an over for the last 5 and don't lose too many wickets DL will be quite kind to them.

From cricinfo again:

A reminder that whatever South Africa will be adjusted. For example if they end up with 280, the revised target will be 297 in 43 overs

Rain was forecast and they won the toss - unlucky yeah but they could put some blame on themselves in batting first.

You can't put blame on them for doing what every captain would do. They would have been idiots not to bat first.

For the most part I've found this tournament a little meh due to the bat first, score big, other team falters trying to keep up with run rate games that happen too often with the new rules.

The new rules are ridiculous with the massive run glut it promotes at the end of an innings.
And you're right, it gives the team batting first the luxury of not worrying about scoreboard pressure.
