I think it's made it harder, but NZ will still have to chase around 6.5 from the start of their innings. If SA bowl well they should still be able to defend that.

More closer to 7/over, which in these conditions and against Steyn/Morkel/Philander will go down as one of the greatest ODI chases of all time if NZ can pull it off.

Not in the 'big' matches.

Reminds me of Parramatta's 2001 side: had the talent, but their inexperienced side (only Solomona had played in a GF, and a losing one) came up on the big day against a side that had several players who'd 'been there, done that'

Southee has seen a semi-final before, he should be better than this.

There was a lot of talk about how great he is, but apart from England it hasn't been all that flash. Boult disguised things a bit with his outstanding bowling, he is truly world class.

The run is over lads, was good while it lasted. Corey Anderson fair dinkum, its a joke that they consider this guy their 'death' bowler. He bowls a variety of pies really.

I also thought McCullums over attacking nature would eventually destroy them.

Never liked the prospect of playing SA. One of those teams we seem to have that mental hurdle for.

Ironically SA have that same mental hurdle for Australia so SA winning would be like handing Australia the trophy.

I thought this too, what happens when the day came when a team was smart enough to see off Boult and Vettori and then feast off the rest.

Batsman will have to pull off one of the greatest all-time run chases as someone mentioned.

Especially when in some games McCullum has got to about over 30 and used 4 bowlers... that's very dicey. It leaves pie throwers like Anderson with a very very important role, one which they can't handle. They might be ok for 2-3 overs at a time when new batsmen are at the crease, but not when the danger throttle is engaged.

Another drop, tough but we usually take these.
The wheels really fell off when de Villers walked out.

Anderson bowling absolute rank filth

What are 'big' matches??

He's got more World Cup finals experience than any of the Australian attack.

He should be better...

65 runs off the last 5 overs (after the rain delay).

Anderson conceeding 72 runs off his 6 overs (going at 12 an over). Very expensive

I think I'm gonna sit with Iafeta on this one and call it a game, we won't get these against that bowling attack unless McCullum engineers a miracle. It was a great run but we carried too many glaring weaknesses to beat the best.

I hope South Africa win the final but you just feel they'll stuff that up.

NZ not out of it. They may or may not get bowled out, but they'll score fast on this ground

They won't beat Australia who won't lose to India.

It's been an enjoyable if not a little lackluster tournament, but I don't see us getting this at all.

Guptil's record against SA is horrible and I don't see him backing up well after his last innings. McCullum will almost certainly get out going too hard too soon. Taylor will scratch around and put us behind the rate and the likes of Anderson, Elliott, Ronchi will throw their wicket away trying to keep up.

That leaves Williamson who will probably get a jaffa early in his innings.

For all the records, and all the individual achievements (Guppy's 200, McCullum's innings v England, Southee v England, Boult's spell v Australia), IMO this tournament both from a New Zealand performance level and a tournament level is significant down on delivering on hype compared to 1992. In 1992 every game was against full test playing nations, half edges went to slip not into the stand for 6, and captains generally had a chance in the last 10 rather than be absolute cannon fodder. Cricket for mine is too easy for batsmen in ODI's these days. I think you almost now get to a point where you know by the time innings 1 is over who will win.

If we get past India and have play South Africa its almost like its destined for South Africa to win, what better way for South Africa to get back at Australia for all previous WC heartaches than to beat us in our own backyard in front of 90K,that is the perfect revenge.
