We score most of our tries from set plays or kicks. It's usually a last pass from GI to a winger or centre, so unless those two count catch it's irrelevant whether they both play or not.
Same with tries from kicks, if they can't catch or dive on a grubbed kick... Irrelevant.

I dont think we can necessarily rely on those tactics this season, everybody seemed to have worked souths out in the last 2 months of last season.I just think that backline would be too slow too compete with the likes of the broncos, eels, panthers, storm, sharks etc, teams with real pace.

Goodwin and Turner will be in the starting side.

Madge likes players who give their all so Bryson will be there to start the season. His goal kicking may be needed too. (You never know)

Crichton won't be there to start the season.

I don't think Brown will be there unless an there is an injury. Brown will be 19th man.

Madge will pick McInnes too.

Madge won't go with that.

Good to see you agree.

haha, okok maybe goodwin in the centres with auva'a, but goodwin might have to outplay gray and hunt in the pre season games. if hunt plays better than gray and goodwin, then hunt will have earnt the spot

i'd have turner on the interchange for round 1 (instead of crichton) if he plays better than crichton in the pre season games

I'm not sure about McInnes, R20. If he plays better than Carter or Cook in the pre season games, then fair enough if he is in the first grade team for Round 1.

I agree Matrix but..... I did say what I think madge will do. Not what you or I would choose.
We should start a post with Madge's teams versus each of our own team selections.
Would be interesting to see what everyone comes up with compared to what Madge's team selection will be.
I'm not a madge basher, I love what he done for us 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015. He has put together a squad and structure that has seen us in top 8 each year.
However I do think Madge's biggest regret and biggest mistake was signing Glenn Stewart.
Since his bitching to media outlets about Madge's coaching style, he has been heavily scrutinised.
I believe he is a career coach in same mould as Bellamy and Bennett.
I hope he is with us for 20 years.
Bellamy and Bennett coached teams have limped into the top 8 on occasions and even failed to make the top 8 on occasions, but they keep there jobs and rid the negativity, hence releasing Stewart and Walker.
I believe Madge is a champion bloke. The number one rule is never knock a champion.
We will make top 4 this year and Madge will silence a lot of critics.
But in the future if we have a bad year, and he will, he needs and deserves the clubs, the members and fans support.
His signing in my opinion has been the best signing we've made since PHIL Blake was signed in the 1980's.

I think Madge is a pretty good coach too. I think he would have learnt a lot from last year.

If Hunt plays well in the trials and at Norths he might get his chance in first grade in about Round 8 or 9.

I just reckon McInnes will be given first crack at 9. (I'm thinking what Madge would do)

The only one who got "kicked out" was McQueen, the rest requested releases. Tim Grant was told he could look elsewhere but whether he left or not, it didn't affect Sam's contract.

I hope so.

Apparently some players are still not happy as we know quite a few got kicked out for Sam.

Unlucky for them, anyone with any sense would see after last years performance signing the best forward in the game is a good thing.

Plus only McQueen got booted Walker booted himself out by being a moron.

So just read Maguire's book about the 2014 season. Good book that really goes into details about madges thought processes

Fullback- will be inglis. No disputing this. There is no way inglis will be moved to centres with maguire at the club

Outside backs- maguire openly states in his book that while goodwin can fill in there, he is not a natural winger. At the same time i don't think maguire has the same faith in Goodwins ability at centre as some one here do. He was cast aside in 2014, he was shifted to wing the second auva'a was available in 2015, and souths have been desperately seeking a centre over the 2016 off-season even going as far as to over pay for nielsen out of Bradford. Gray waste comfortable at wing before he picked up injuries, aj is the current australian winger, auva'a is easily the best centre at the club, and nielsen was brought for a reason.

Halves- Reynolds is the key to souths, he isn't in much danger. Keary is still our first choice 5-8th. If walker is picked it'd probably be on the bench, to keep the established pair on their toes, in the same way keary was brought into the team in 13-14

Middle forwards- sam will be lock, tyrell will be one starting prop. Madge is a huge fan of the work he does, the little one per centers and I don't think metres gained is as important a stat as fans make out. I think tom will be the other starting prop, he had a good 2015 season and a good international series for England, George may be relegated to the bench in a similar fashion isaac luke was occasionly as a wake-up call/motivation/mind games.

Edge back rowers- turmer and sutton. They are Maguire's favourites, they do whatever job the coach tells them.

Hooker- hardest choice by far, but i think mcinnes well get the start. His been in the team longer, knows the halves, had a lot of improvement in his game. Leaving cook out will drive motivate him more, maguire head games will come into play at hooker

Bench- whichever twin isn't starting will take one bench spot
Grevsmuhl will be the first choice to take the other middle forward spot on the bench
Clark is a coaches favourite, will go on and do any job the coach lays out for him.
Carter is my choice for the utility spot, can play hooker, can play backrow, can even cover in the halves or centre if needed.

So my first up team for 2016 will be
1. Inglis
2. Gray
3. Nielsen
4. Auva'a
5. Johnston
6. Keary
7. Reynolds
8. Tom Burgess
9. Mcinnes
10. Tyrell
11. Turner
12. Sutton
13. S.Burgess

14. Clark
15. Carter
16. Grevsmuhl
17. G. Burgess

18. Goodwin
19. Walker
20. Brown

The younger guys will be pushing for spots after a few rounds
