R20, who says they're not happy because of Sam?

Tyrrell, Keary, McInnes I've heard.

Apparently more guys aren't happy as we had to get rid of quite a few.

Apparently there is tension in the squad and Richo will try calming things down.

So just read Maguire's book about the 2014 season. Good book that really goes into details about madges thought processes

Fullback- will be inglis. No disputing this. There is no way inglis will be moved to centres with maguire at the club

Outside backs- maguire openly states in his book that while goodwin can fill in there, he is not a natural winger. At the same time i don't think maguire has the same faith in Goodwins ability at centre as some one here do. He was cast aside in 2014, he was shifted to wing the second auva'a was available in 2015, and souths have been desperately seeking a centre over the 2016 off-season even going as far as to over pay for nielsen out of Bradford. Gray waste comfortable at wing before he picked up injuries, aj is the current australian winger, auva'a is easily the best centre at the club, and nielsen was brought for a reason.

Halves- Reynolds is the key to souths, he isn't in much danger. Keary is still our first choice 5-8th. If walker is picked it'd probably be on the bench, to keep the established pair on their toes, in the same way keary was brought into the team in 13-14

Middle forwards- sam will be lock, tyrell will be one starting prop. Madge is a huge fan of the work he does, the little one per centers and I don't think metres gained is as important a stat as fans make out. I think tom will be the other starting prop, he had a good 2015 season and a good international series for England, George may be relegated to the bench in a similar fashion isaac luke was occasionly as a wake-up call/motivation/mind games.

Edge back rowers- turmer and sutton. They are Maguire's favourites, they do whatever job the coach tells them.

Hooker- hardest choice by far, but i think mcinnes well get the start. His been in the team longer, knows the halves, had a lot of improvement in his game. Leaving cook out will drive motivate him more, maguire head games will come into play at hooker

Bench- whichever twin isn't starting will take one bench spot
Grevsmuhl will be the first choice to take the other middle forward spot on the bench
Clark is a coaches favourite, will go on and do any job the coach lays out for him.
Carter is my choice for the utility spot, can play hooker, can play backrow, can even cover in the halves or centre if needed.

So my first up team for 2016 will be
1. Inglis
2. Gray
3. Nielsen
4. Auva'a
5. Johnston
6. Keary
7. Reynolds
8. Tom Burgess
9. Mcinnes
10. Tyrell
11. Turner
12. Sutton
13. S.Burgess

14. Clark
15. Carter
16. Grevsmuhl
17. G. Burgess

18. Goodwin
19. Walker
20. Brown

The younger guys will be pushing for spots after a few rounds

Can't see that happening. Nielsen can't just waltz in to first grade having played second tier in England. His defence needs work at North Sydney Oval.

George will be starting.

I expect Cook on the bench with Carter 18th man. Brown 19th man and A. Gray 20th man.

OK, as long as it wasn't media.........the players mentioned are borderline as to whether Souths will keep them though.

I think whether Nielsen walks straight in or not will depend on the trial form of all the candidates.

Good point Diego but we didn't really have anyone else at the time did we?

It was Inglis, Merritt, Champion, Goodwin and Tuqiri (who did pretty well in the trials if i can recall)

Walker played five eighth I think? And Reddy was our only real other option.

AJ and Auva'a obviously debuted later on.

Atm we have a few ahead of Nielsen.

Like?
We have a few rookies who might push for a spot with good trial form
Gray and oldfield will likely press for the open wing spot, it's a possibility oldfield will be at wing and gray. The other possibility is goodwin, in my opinion he and nielsen are about equal, but maybe nielsen was brought in because he is seen as being more solidsolid in defence. Either way I think the likelihood of nielsen being in the first round team is a lot higher then some in here give credit to. You don't buy a troubled older centre on good money if you dont see a purpose for him

I reckon Madge will go with Oldfield Gray or Goodwin for the wing/centre spot.

I agree Gray and Oldfield are fighting for a wing spot.

I see Goodwin as a better option than Nielsen at this stage.

As the season progresses yes.

I expect him to get his chance between Rounds 8-10.

Alien I wouldn't be surprised to see Hunt get a shot at no3 after a few rounds also may see old field take the other wing

yes i think oldfield will get that other wing spot for round 1. he has to play well in the pre season games though. i think he will score plenty of tries in the nines. he is very quick

1. Inglis
2. Hunt - Big, strong and good in the air, will help Inglis out alot retuning the ball
3. Gray - got potential, got a good bump and fend on him
4. Auva'a
5. Johnston
6. Walker - Loves taking on the line and will compliment adam perfectly
7. Reynolds
8. Tom Burgess
9. Cook -
10. Brown - aggressive and quick play the balls
11. Turner
12. Sutton
13. S.Burgess

14. Goodwin - With less interchange this year, goodwin will play 2nd row, works hard and gains good metres, will be useful with tiring forwards.
15. Tyrell
16. Grevsmuhl - Will play prop
17. G. Burgess

I like your thoughts.

Brown is definitely an option to start at prop.

If Keary performs badly Madge will put Cody in. I think Keary will go better this year though.

I'd have George starting. Tom on the bench.

I see your point re Goodwin but I don't think Madge will do this.

It's worth an experiment putting Bryson there in the trials though. I think he'd do well. But I can't see Madge becoming that creative.

I think Oldfield will get in the side before Hunt.
