Lachlan Coote

Just watching the Cowboys playing the Roosters tonight and keeping a close eye on Lachlan Coote. If we are serious about playing Dugan in the centres I actually think there are not many better options at fullback than Lachlan Coote, he's smart, fast and safe out the back, the guy is electric and not a player that get's that many accolades but I'm a big fan of the way he plays.
Still only 26 years old, to be honest forget Valentine Holmes, the Cowboys have given Coote permission to look around, I think he's a terrific player that could be a genuine strike player at fullback perhaps for 2017, wouldn't break the bank too I think, thoughts?

Mate, I put forward recently that Coote adds more at FB than Dugan and got flamed by many posters here. Honestly, if the Cows had the choice between Dugan at FB and Coote, who do you think they would choose?

It would be Coote 100 times over.

The guy has it all, passes, kicks with both feet and is a better runner than I thought. 2 try assists and 1 try in a half.

Seriously doubt the Cows would let him go though. JT has had a field day ever since Coote came on board and they would be foolish to wreck that.

It's hard for me to say this but he is a more complete FB than Dugan, it's true that JT thrives with Coote playing alongside him, he is a genuine third playmaker and like giboz71 said he can do it all.

Spot on Minh...we should be making inquiries now....forget Cronk, Forget Holmes, forget Reynolds....Cowboys told him exit stage left....get in now.
It was a pleasure to watch a fullback playing like a half back..and fast to boot!

In one game he equalled Dugan's try assist output for the entire 2015 season.

Already given up on Mann, I see. Good boy.

Aside from that, you make some good points.

I'd rather Holmes over Coote (age, speed, potential and seemingly less injury prone).

Coote is all quality, still young and maturing. All the attributes required for a current day fullback, and would be a super buy.If the Cowboys have given permission to negotiate I would suggest be get into his ear real quickly. To fund the purchase get rid of 2 or 3 of our perhapsers.

Sounds good Minh...but (said tongue in cheek) arnt we only buying depth players like Mann, Lafai etc.....he would'nt fit the bill would he.....:sarcasm:

Yes BSE, we probably should sacrafice two or three decent depth signings and make a play for one bigger fish so to speak.....

Wow u actually have not sat on the fence with this GOOD ON YOU!!! I think you couldn't be more wrong
Straight Shooter, I think Coote would be a more astute buy because he has had a couple of injuries & knows what it takes to manage himself @ this elite level . Also he has proven himself already & has the maturity to boot. I have never seen his name in the paper for the wrong reasons although Valentine Holmes name has been mentioned in a couple of indiscretions lately hmmmm, says a lot about the egos involved & your right Valentine Holmes hasn't been injured yet that's all ahead of him being so young . If we are talking about a successful ball playing fullback he should be our number 1 target . START TALKING DRAGONS :cool::cool:

As usual, too little too late, im sure we have had opportunities to sign Coote (he was godly for the panthers years ago), now we would be taking on a full marketplace & from a side hes probably pretty happy.. and as ppl have mentioned the injury factor, but Dugan is certainly no better in that regard.

Massive fan of Coote but let's face it, would he be any good in our current system?

Both his try assists last night were off pinpoint JT passes as he was taking on the line, with 2 forwards running perfect lines as decoys. When was the last time you saw something like that in our backline? Not since Hornby, Boyd, Creagh and Morris.

If we were going to get someone like Coote, we need a half he can combine with (and that ain't Benji).

If he were join our team now, he'd probably go about as well as all our other outside back recruits in recent years.

Pretty much this. We need to spend some money onon a halfback to complement Widdop first closely followed by a hooker before looking at fullback. Also need to consider if, how, when they blood Dufty into first grade and work on his retention.

Wow what a difference between the way the cowboys play not just Coote , compared to the way we play Dragons footy.... They are all organized we are in shambles ... Thurston is their rudder not sure how they would go without him....
