Turner – Putting On A Good Performance In Cairns

Words & Video: Guy Bevan

Sun 26th June, 11:03AM
A A

Kyle Turner believes a tough fixture against the North Queensland Cowboys will be a good test of the progress we’ve made as a team and believes a good result could fire up the back end of our season.

With patches of dominance on display in our Round 15 clash against the Penrith Panthers, Turner is confident that the team is growing together and close to putting in a consistent 80 minutes.

“We know we can do it, the effort is there. It’s just being smart about it through the whole 80 minutes. If we can do that I don’t see why we lose that game,” Turner said.

Coming up against the 3rd placed Cowboys, Turner is excited to see his team stand up to the challenge and test the progress the Rabbitohs have made over the past month.

“They’re always a tough game but we’re looking forward to the challenge. It’s really going to test where we’re at as a team.”

With only six points separating the Rabbitohs from a spot in the finals Turner believes this clash could prove a tipping point in our season.

“If we can put on a good performance there it will set us up for the rest of the season.

“The boys in the team we’ve got, we can really put a dent in this competition I think.”

Cannot believe we thought it would be a good ideato take a home game against the Cowboys to Cairns. Unbelievably stupid. I have no problem in taking games to Perth and NQ but why wouldn't they take advantage of the home away from home game instead of handing over all advantage to the opposition. Making the Warriors travel to Perth and someone like Tigers, Bulldogs or Roosters who call Sydney home to Cairns not only spreads the Rabbitohs brand, but also increases our chance of victory.

I just opened this thread to say the same. Even if the game wasn't in Cairns they shouldn't be taking the game against the premiers away from Sydney. As a member I don't mind going to watch us get flogged but i would prefer to watch us get flogged against the cows than say Penrith. Its just bad management.

I dont know if it is arrogance, stupidity or putting the brand before the teams outcomes. It will in all likelihood cost us 4 points.

Blame poor crowds. Even with huge membership numbers and recent success, crowd numbers are Dissapointing. Without north Queensland fans able to bolster the numbers, a game in Sydney this week would have been embarrassingly low.
If you look at which teams we take to fly-away home games (and the trend is followed throughout the nrl), it's usually low drawing non-sydney teams taken away.

The thing is teams like Penrith or Manly don't real have great away followings either.(not that we're one to talk) So theres no way the club should be taking a home game against the premiers away from Sydney.

it is strange to have a home game in cairns against nth qld. it would have made more sense to have this game in adelaide. they have a nice rectangular stadium there

i just meant in regards to playing a "home game" in nth qld against nth qld

The thing is the agreement is made with he ground/city for so many years. We've chosen to take the cows up there which is stupid and an insult to members in my opinion.

possible team???

1. walker
2. johnston (left)
3. inglis (left)
4. auva'a (right) (needs to get back to his best - fire up auva'a, but no silly penalties!)
5. joe burgess (right)
6. keary
7. reynolds
8. tom burgess
9. cook (mcinnes needs to work on his game in nsw cup. he often delivers the ball too slowly and it hurts our momentum
10. sam burgess (shouldn't be playing 80 mins. he looks buggered at times)
11. carter
12. turner (scored a good try last week. hopefully he can do more hard runs like that)
13. sutton (lock so he can pop up on either side of the field in attack. often sets up tries with kicks and well timed passes)

14. tasi/gosiewski/siolo
15. clark
16. brown (good impact player. will bring a lot of energy if fired up)
17. tyrrell

(injured: oldfield, hunt, goodwin, george burgess, musgrove)

Some feedback on Dokonivalu please!!

Bulldogs junior, former Roosters U20's in 2014 and Illawarra Cutters (2015)
He played for Fiji this year. He spent most of his time on the bench for the
Bears this season. He is a good ball runner. He will make a ton of meters for
you, except he is jersey grabber on defence.

Barlow Park sold out for the NQ Cowboys- Rabbitohs game, 15,000.
We may have a problem after watching the game last night, our SOO players looked off the pace but we were really helped by Taumalolo, he was unstoppable yesterday.
Morgan won't be there next Sunday and hopefully JT, Scott etc have revived.

I'd say it is more to do with the financial benefits associated with taking the game there. At the end of the day, we need to be making money and chances are that the club has been offered ridiculous amounts by the QLD government/the stadiums owners and/or some other third party to take the game there. I know Parramatta have a similar arrangement with the Northen Territory State Government to play games in Darwin and we get paid a decent amount to take a game to Perth. I don't like it any more than you do but if it means that we can be rich and prosperous that it doesn't both me too much. In any case, it makes for a much better spectacle to have a full house up there in Cairns as opposed to a half-full ANZ Stadium.
