2017 scheduling

With Monday Night Football going the way of the Dodo (hopefully never to return) what exactly will be the scheduling for 2017?

Is it
1 x Thursday
2 x Friday
3 x Saturday
2 x Sunday

If so, which games will be shown when?
I am assuming a return to the Queensland / NSW split reverse for Friday?

Friday is going to be the god awful 6PM game followed by 8PM. As I understand it Fox will broadcast the 6PM gam, in other words it directly replaces MNF.

Channel 9 will retain Thursday/Friday nights as well as Sunday arvo. I believe they will also have 6 Saturday night games in the run up to the finals.

The 6pm Friday game will be the major problem. Firstly, it looks in an 8pm kick-off for the Channel 9 game on Friday's. Second if your team gets the 6pm game, tough luck if you don't work/live nearby their home ground as if you work until 5pm you will have buckley's of making it to the ground by 6pm. For example, imagine being a Cowboys supporter living ion Townsville trying to get to 1300smiles stadium for a 6pm Friday kick-off? Yikes!

Add in the lack of people watching the game as they are commuting, and 6pm Friday is gonna rank up there with the dumbest of all time decisions.

Absolutely stupid idea.

Until the NRL takes control of the schedule in 2018, it wil lbe more of the same, ie. Bronco's 20 Friday's a season, Eels, Dogs and Souffs making up the rest and teams like Canberra and Newcastle getting shafted in FTA coverage.

Even when the NRL do take charge I will be VERY interested to see how "impartial" the draw becomes.........

Friday 6pm is God awfully stupid, I for one don't think I could ever make that time slot

imo Sunday 6pm would make most sense unless that is already gonna happen

Its staggering really, 6pm that mates out for a Friday night out cant get to and 8pm that families wont attend as finish will be too late for little kids. But that's the point isn't it? As a competition run for TV they are perfect.

Have Thursdays proved anymore popular than Mondays for crowds?

There's no plans for a Sunday 6pm game but I wouldn't be surprised if the 6pm Friday game moves there. It won't possibly last where it is.

Once that happens, all we need to do is move Thursday night to Saturday or Sunday somewhere and we're set.

Here's hoping it will be:

Thursday - 7:30pm
Friday - 7:30pm
Saturday - 3:00pm, 5:30pm, 7:30pm
Sunday - 2:00pm, 4:00pm, 6:30pm

Change I'd prefer.

Friday - 7:30pm
Saturday - 2:00pm, 4:00pm, 6:00pm, 8:00pm
Sunday - 2:00pm, 4:00pm, 6:30pm

If 9 or Fox want a Thursday or Monday game (not both), they can stump up the cash for 2 extra teams based where we determine.

In a perfect world, I'd prefer:

Friday - 7:30pm
Saturday- 3:00pm, 5:30pm, 7:30pm
Sunday - 2:00pm (x2) 4:00pm (x2)

More daytime football, more family friendly time slots.

It'll never happen though.
Honestly the NRL should give that schedule a shot for a five year period (ie one broadcast deal). Go hard, try to boost crowds; ratings won't take much of a hit (if any at all).

Cant have delayed games in this age
It's an issue, but how hard is it to stay off your phone for a while if you want to avoid the scores in the other game? The TV broadcasters would also know not to reveal the scores for the simultaneous games as well. It's all hypothetical of course.

Irrelevant. Don't give people the option of knowing the result of a game before its actually finished. The only way anyone should be able to know the result of a match is by watching it.

And if you think it doesn't affect ratings, the ratings for the Sunday afternoon game went up when it was made live.

I agree with you. If ever the day comes where they do play to games at the same time - hopefully the NRL is smart enough to ensure that they are played in different cities, and that the game is broadcast live everywhere except where that game is played to facilitate an increase in crowds at the game. Of course if it is a sellout - then broadcast it live to the local audience as well.

You're using the NFL as your basis. That won't work here and won't last in the NFL in the long term.

If Parra is hosting a game that doesn't sell out, there is no way that they could delay broadcast for just Parramatta and not Penrith. Think.

If it wasn't for TV money I would like -

Friday 7:30 Kick off
Saturday 3pm Kickoff / 5pm Kick off / 7pm Kickoff
Sunday 2pm / and 2 x 4 pm .
