Like he wasn't getting laid anyway! Possibly the hunkiest athlete on the olympic team!

He sort of brushed Emma McKeon when she was gushing over him just after the race. Thats when I was thinking "to be that dude right know"

I've got a theory that for an Aussie to win they need to be an absolute certainty or an underdog that has avoided any expectation.
So I've got Cate getting touched out into silver, hopefully by her underdog sister taking gold.

Different commentators have said - they touch the exact time. Maybe that's what Cate said - who knows? Micky75 you braindead F.....r! haha

We will see if your theory is correct tomorrow! The two butterfly medalists should in theory medal in this event too as they should be about 2.5-3 seconds faster in the free.

There was 0.01 in that semi. And it did look like Cate was putting in. Too tough to call.

I dunno she seemed like she was cruising still, less so than the last heat but still relatively relaxed.
As long as she isn't overwhelmed she should take it.
Bronte seems to be overwhelmed it just depends how she prepares.

Yeah the young Canadian could be the female version of Chalmers.

I can't believe she's paying $9 to win. Compared with Cate @ $1.12. That's remarkably good odds for a fearless girl who only got touched out by 0.01 in the semi by Cate.

she wasn't puffing too much in her presser after the swim, normally they struggle to talk

she said she swicted off a bit in the last 15 metres

Bronte is nowhere near fit. It would take a heck of an effort for her to win being 85-90% fit.

Cate was in cruise control, barring a miracle she is winning and she will probably lower the WR or close to it.

Larkin cruised too but he does have a harder task. The US swimmer will go close.

McKeon should win the breaststroke but who knows she just swum as fast as she could in the semi. Is there much in the tank?

Quite often the easiest feeling swims can be some of your fastest. I remember looking up at the clock after clocking off at the 80m and going no way, it didn't feel that fast. Then popping a nut in the final to only go 0.2 faster.

These swimmers are ultra fit - even after a 100m max effort, their heart rate would be below 100 in a matter of minutes. So she would have no problem talking 30-40 seconds after the race.

On the Canadian Penny Oleksiak, the thing about being 16, you can shave 0.2-1.0 off your PB from one meet to the next and sometimes from one day to the next. She's already tasted silver in the fly. Her PB prior to this meet was 53.3. I reckon she could have another 0.1-0.2 in her.

Yeah she looks the goods but anything can happen in the final. Expect to get in the medals the girls will need to swim sub 53. Canadian will medal if she repeats that performance. Only 5 of the them have swam sub 53 before. One of them is the Dutch defending Olympic champ who is struggling for form.

I would expect Cate and Bronte to lead out the field with the Dutchie.

The Canadian (who is only 16) was the only swimmer to split sub 27 in the 2nd 50. If she is close enough at the turn, expect her to come home like a train again.
Yeah that Penny Olezniak I think she's called is really good.

Cate has to swim faster than the semi to win.

That Canadian is very quick.

Considering Cate has improved in both her heats, breaking records in the process, I think shes in a very good position to win.

Chalmers and McEvoy both qualify for the 50m.
Don't think lightning is striking twice but would be good to see McEvoy bounce back.
Coach said he choked in the 100m, seems like we need to create an artificial pressure environment for our swimmers.

http://www.news.com.au/sport/olympi...f/news-story/100405b2cfac9f3a453d9a2e69fcc54a

AUSTRALIAN head coach Jacco Verhaeren said Cameron McEvoy suffered “stage fright” in the Olympic 100m freestyle final, dismissing suggestions the world No. 1 had been ill with a sore throat before the race.

So despite some wanting to blame a mystery illness the boss has come out and said this is BS...

Every Olympics I can recall ( going back to 1996) there have been a couple of favoured swimmers who just seem to put in shockers on the big stage...

I might be sounding like a broken record, but they really need to investigate this...

Something is clearly wrong with the preparation and the psychological make up of the Swimming team... We see it every 4 years but nothing changes and we see it again the next time....

The 50m really is a raffle, get off the blocks quick and you're a chance. These guys only breathe once or twice over the 50 metres.

It never used to be an Olympic event and for good reason.
