From what I know they can still be paid their support money by Swimming Australia and attend universities over there on athletic scholarships. The scholarships in the US are worth a ridiculous amount - upwards of US$50,000 and that was from my experience back in the early 2000s. They include all university fees, on campus accommodation and food, all training, and medical and a small allowance. I believe they can still get medal and performance bonuses from the government, etc too.

Sponsorship by someone such as Nike would void collegiate eligibility.
50 thousand? Are you sure? They just voted to bring the amount up, and it's subject to controversy (with it's football scholarships at least).
I'd have thought it was between 10-30k for the average athlete...

a bit judgmental there Nick, the coaches were aware there was something wrong with him and hooked him from the 4 X 200 relay,

do you know something they dont ?

I know he's not delivered any gold and he's ruined the Olympics for everyone, that's what i know

I think she has a big chance to get the gold. She blew the rest away and looked very comfortable and she has gone faster earlier this year. Hoping she was holding a bit back and has more to give.
I told you she would win silver.

Is he racing in the 50m? Would have to be a huge shot at that too if so.

It's also safe to say that he's just set himself up for life with multi million dollar endorsement deals.

That was a million dollar win in every way for him.
If he was in the 50m he wouldn't go as well as his starts are too slow.

McEvoy better get himself right for the 50m.

Yeah I believe that is on top of tuition mate? They just seem to hand that shit out for free.
Yeah on top but they make next to nothing and struggle to get by.
Don't think that's the answer, most of our swimmers are already uni students.
I'm beginning to think the Americans race better so they can get a paycheck.

Who McKewen or Cate??

I'm confident Cate will win gold but not as confident on McKewen.
She looked almost human at the end of that last heat, but still set an OR!
I'm pretty excited but she has a massive target on her back and that pesky USA swimmer and the Swede will lift.

Not sure Bronte medals.

I think she will just win.

I don't think Bronte will medal either.

I've just realised the best part about Chalmers win...

The Olympic Gold is great. The millions in endorsements perhaps even better.

But even better still is that he's just printed himself a license to shag ANY bird he wants for the next 4 years at least.

Yeah she looks the goods but anything can happen in the final. Expect to get in the medals the girls will need to swim sub 53. Canadian will medal if she repeats that performance. Only 5 of the them have swam sub 53 before. One of them is the Dutch defending Olympic champ who is struggling for form.

I would expect Cate and Bronte to lead out the field with the Dutchie.

The Canadian (who is only 16) was the only swimmer to split sub 27 in the 2nd 50. If she is close enough at the turn, expect her to come home like a train again.

provided he has consent - which he will have.
