Yep, how many Australian swimmers break records in heats then go onto to swim far slower the next day in the final. You never see it with the US.

The other thing they don't race enough, they train heaps but they hardly race. Unlike the Yanks who race weekly in the ultra competitive college system. You only have to see how they win the big moments and produce their best when i matters. You can't always be at your best but to be continually so far behind their best in finals questions have to be asked.

At times, collectively, they have come across like those American kiddy pageants.
I agree with pulling some funding and maybe make them get a day job.

Yep.

When I won all my Inter school high school swimming races, I was studying and working part time for Pizza Hutt and at a corner shop. No freebies then.

That said, I think I only ever won a couple. My brother was the Phelps of the family, the f***er!

These swimmers hardly even act disappointed when they lose, 'ohhh well you know I tried my best...BUT HEY, WHAT ABOUT THE MAIN MAN CHALMERS!?' Oh shut up McEvoy, you were just tipped to win that race and you came 7th. Act like you care mate...

I agree to some extent but the problem is getting them to race more often in overseas events is going to cost even more money. This also doesn't explain our relative success at World Championships compared to Olympics.

They'll also get dropped from their scholarship if they don't meet times/place well.

With my kids in sport, there's a real wank mentality of touchy feely mamby pamby at the moment.

I'm not saying you can't play hard and fair and compete, but medals/ribbons to EVERYONE to compete, blah blah blah. It's nauseating. Funny thing is, a lot of parents think it's a walk. But the sports bodies devour it.

I'm also not saying run kids in to the ground, abuse refs, have coaches etc. But losing makes you try harder. And when you try harder, you tend to get better. Don;t sugar coat deficiencies. For the past 10-12 years since Sydney 2000, it's been like this in many big sports. Oh, we were happy to compete. It's lovely...really it is. But you have a losers mentality. Shane Watson gets a 90 and can't make a ton.

I'm a merkin, I know. But it's a mental thing. And it's pi$$weak.

Yeah so there is no "there there". " you tried your best" "please don't hate me"

They will go back home and live comfortably off their endorsements and funding. It's obvious it doesn't hurt them enough when they lose. No killer instinct.

Another thing is, places like China, Japan, France, Italy...they're all catching up in the coaching training dept.

They're spending more. They've caught up to us.

f**k...they're using OUR coaches!!!

I have no idea what went on with Cate, this is her 3rd olympics and probably her last chance at gold.
If she doesn't at least medal in the 50m she is the biggest physical waste ever, with that body she should have several gold by now.

All this sisterly love is fake and sickening anyway. 7's fault. All my sisters want to bitch about and kill each other like the real world. Soft.
