If we had enough for korbin sims (who was on $400k at the Knights and reportedly we were close to buying out his full contract ) then maybe We'd have a to pay for simona. If Tigers were having trouble cap wise maybe they'd have to pay part of the contract. Most clubs seem to have something up there sleeve for late off-season, early season signings. Even souths have a history goodwin 2013, lote 2014, millard 2015, Nielsen 2016 as late signings

This town is big enough for the two of us
Ben Chenoweth

For years Campbelltown has only been home to one professional rugby league club – first the Western Suburbs Magpies and now the Wests Tigers.

But now another club has decided to set up home in Macarthur – even if it’s only for one night.

South Sydney Rabbitohs will host the Manly Sea Eagles during a trial match on Saturday, February 11.

With American rock band Guns N Roses playing at the club’s regular home ground, ANZ Stadium, an alternative venue was needed to host the match.

Souths chief executive Blake Solly – a former St Gregory’s College Campbelltown student – said the decision to shift the game to Campbelltown Sports Stadium make perfect sense.

“We have around 4000 members in south west Sydney and Campbelltown is one of our strongest membership areas,” he said.

“We love Campbelltown and the idea of taking a game there was a really easy decision to make.

“We want to service the members and take a near full strength squad for the trial match.”

The club has continued to expand it’s presence in the Macarthur region – attending Campbelltown Council’s Christmas Carols event and also holding a week long training camp at St Gregory’s College which ended on Saturday, January 21.

However, Mr Solly said the club had no intentions of waging a turf war with the Wests Tigers when it came to Macarthur.

“There’s certainly no turf war with the Wests Tigers,” he said.

“There are enough people in south west Sydney for Wests Tigers and us.”

Wests Tigers chief executive Justin Pascoe also said there was no bad blood between the clubs regarding Campbelltown.

The biggest challenge, he said, was being issued by rival codes.

A-League side the Western Sydney Wanderers has signalled its intention to boost its Macarthur fan base, recently holding the club’s second regular season home game at Campbelltown Sports Stadium.

The Wanderers will also play its three Asian Championship League games at the venue this year.

“With South Sydney hosting a one-off trial at Campbelltown next month, the game of rugby league will receive yet another boost in promotion within the Macarthur region,” Mr Pascoe said.

“(It) will only help the club fight off rival codes as we look to build our nursery and develop local juniors.”

Wests Tigers will host a trial match against the North Queensland Cowboys at Campbelltown Sports Stadium a week after the Rabbitohs game.

And he said bigger and better games would come during the 2017 regular season.

“This will be the sixth Wests Tigers NRL trial at Campbelltown Sports Stadium in the past seven years, with our Intrust Super Premiership and Holden Cup sides also playing trials at Kirkham Oval in Camden,” he said.

“Not only that, but we have secured blockbuster regular season matches against Sydney rivals the (Sydney) Roosters and (Penrith) Panthers at Campbelltown in Sunday afternoon time slots.”

Mr Solly reiterated Mr Pascoe’s sentiments about growing the fanbase in Macarthur.

“The NRL’s biggest challenge is to make sure the popularity or the game (in Macarthur) grows with the region,” he said.

Mr Solly was hopeful the trial would not be a one off.

“We have to see how it goes,” he said.

“We want to make sure it’s a success first but hopefully it’s something we can return to Campbelltown to do more of.”

Bunnies and birds set for trial
24 Jan 2017, 9:46 a.m.

The stage is set for a titanic clash at Campbelltown Stadium next month, with the South Sydney Rabbitohs and the Manly Sea Eagles set to go to battle in a pre-season trial match.

On Saturday, February 11 the teams will face off from 7.30pm, after a curtain-raiser from the NSW Physical Disability League at 7pm.

Campbelltown mayor George Brticevic welcomed the Bunnies’ return to Campbelltown for the first time since 1999.

“These two trial matches are a coup for Campbelltown Sports Stadium,” he said.

“The footy matches will be a great opportunity for fans to get out and enjoy the atmosphere of a live game of rugby league.”

Tickets are available at ticketek.com.au.

If Tigers were having trouble cap wise maybe they'd have to pay part of the contract.

Looking at their squad it's hard to believe how they can have salary cap troubles. The amount they are paying Farah this season (to play for us) must be included in their salary cap.

Tigers shopping Simona to rival clubs

WESTS Tigers are in danger of losing star centre Tim Simona as they continue to attempt to juggle their salary cap.

The Tigers have to let a player go to fit under the cap – and RLW has learned that the Samoan international is being shopped around to rival clubs.

Born in New Zealand, Simona moved to Sydney as a youngster and has played all his top grade football at the Tigers.

He has played over 100 games for the club and has also played five internationals for Samoa since being first chosen in 2014.

Several clubs are short of class centres and there is expected to be considerable interest in Simona.

The Tigers were considering releasing utility Kyle Lovett but his future is currently in limbo after he was charged with drug possession recently.
