I've seen some suggestions that by definition, the injury isn't career ending.

I don't think any player would be asked to play Rugby League with 25% of bone in one shoulder. Any further play could cause dramatic changes to his life and disfigurement isn't out of the question. If he wanted to live a reasonably normal lifestyle, he had to quit playing. This was advised by Doctors and Specialists.
