If we lost Moses

Everyone has probably seen the articles that have started floating around that Moses could be leaving. Not hugely surprising, he only just had his breakout year in 2016 so if he is getting big offers he will be attracted towards it. I have my own feelings towards the matter if he leaves. We spent the time developing him and building our team around him and now that he is finally delivering he decides to walk out on us??? I have a word for that but whatever...not my place to judge.

What I was thinking though is how bad would it really be if he left? Yes it would suck losing one of our biggest stars, but what if we were able to buy a proper winger and backrower with the money we were offering him? I want to keep all our stars but if we are going to spend half the cap on 4 players then we aren't going to be winning any premierships anytime soon.

What does everyone think?

I can cop it when players who have paid their dues (Prince, Benji, Brasher and Farah) leave our club. Those four blokes owe the club absolutely nothing and played their best.
What really gets under my skin is players whom we develop and show a lot of faith in leave our club when they show good signs. I hate guys like Ben Teo and Glenn Morrison more than I'll ever hate Farah. If Moses left us, I'd be pretty pissed.

Life goes on but gee, I too get pi55ed off when these young ones (or is it just their management?) speak about their futures when they haven't shown what they can do over 2 or 3 full years.

It pisses me off even more how we can develop our own juniors for a good 5-6 years then a rich club like the boughtdogs or goosters can come along and steal our stars because of TPAS.

NRL really needs to figure out how to reward clubs like the Tigers in help keeping players like Moses and Teddy.

What sticks in ones craw is how we squandered an inordinate amount of money on our 6 & 7 when they hadn't justified a fraction of it.

The 6 is showing signs that he will one day b worth good money but we must b shrewd in spending our cap money & use Ricky Stuart's recruitment policy with raiders as a template re our retention/recruitment decisions where he has assembled an excellent value for money balanced team who r genuine premiership contenders.

My anger towards Teo is more to do with the fact that he normally played like a nancy boy for us but was transformed into a machismo backrower with the Broncos. It demonstrates the pissweak fairy floss culture that the sheenius created @ this club & which remains ingrained ! It's y the one area where we desperately need to loosen the purse strings is to entice a hard arse like Hasler over to Concord in '18.

I reckon guys leaving like that is really bad form. I also think Moses could turn into a gun half. I don't think though that he is really there yet. He hasn't led us to wins in tough situations. We didn't make the finals last year and if he was all that he would have.

I don't think replacing Moses with a winger and backrower is going to help us that much though. You need a team full of really good players plus some luck to have a good season.

I hope he stays but I hope we aren't overpaying for any of our stars. I think when you overpay it can end up screwing you over for years on end. I think that is what happened with Benji and Robbie. If we do the same thing again we are just going to end up in the same situation that we've been in over the last 10 odd years.

There really does need to be something to encourage the clus to develop juniors, and reward long term / 1 club players. Almost everyone i speak to has the same view, however the nrl are just absolute dogf#$kers on anything other than changing rules to suit the top clubs

Agree with this post. I don't think we've had a year where a team would genuinely "fear" playing against us and that's the problem. We have an engrained soft culture but everyone seems to be ok with that because our attack is decent

Look at Manly from 2007-2013 for example. Small team but teams feared playing against them because of how battle hardened and aggressive they were and I have no doubt if say a Lovett , rankin etc played in that team they'd get the shit blasted out of them. We don't have that

Yep. We've developed quite a few players now that are genuine superstars in the game who are now signed by other clubs

I will never begrudge anyone in any field of endeavour leaving a place of work for more money.
If some club can stump up another $200k over three years, why wouldnt he take it.
Ive done the same thing myself within work, as have all my friends.

Honestly, having so few players suck up such a huge amount of our cap is recipe for disaster. And long-term we SHOULD lose or cut one. Whether thats this contract or the next one is to be seen.

Either way, we need to get all of these four onto different contract years.......

These guys are ll NOT signing their last contracts and their next ones will likely be bigger, so unless we want a team full of Fitzys and McDonnells, we cant sustain it.

Teddy and Woods are the two must haves. We can build a team around these these two.

No team ever wins a comp without a gun half. Moses isn't there yet, but has shown potential. If he goes, then we must sign another half otherwise you can put a line through us.

Forget about wingers and backrowers - comps are won by the 6 and 7.

He still hasn't learnt how to tackle. The indigenous team had a field day down his side last night, Cartwright & him defending next to each other was a disaster. If Taylor puts him & Naiqaima together again we're in for a long year.

Just to clarify, when I said winger and back rower I meant that as an example of two positions where we don't have a genuine first grader. Left wing and right side back rower has been a merry go round of reserve grade players and if we don't free up some cap space they will never be filled. Imagine if we signed the likes of Ethan Lowe ($500K) and Vunivalu ($300k) for 2018. I'm just throwing names and figures out there but these two players would be huge for us. Yes Moses would be a huge loss but if he doesn't have solid players to pass the ball to what is the point on spending 800k for him?

I agree with this. We need to be careful how much we end up paying those 4 players. Nofo for instance was at times our best player last year. Do we lose him and put Rankin on the wing to retain Moses or Brooks ?

It's going to be interesting seeing what happens.

According to RLW Moses recently signed a four year deal with the Roosters and then reneged on the deal. So, from that I assume we have promised him a shit load of our cap or he is looking to leave. Makes Te Mare Martin look better all the time.

This happened in the 2016 pre season, hence why the roosters have gone and got Keary and resigned Connor Watson
