Lots of money in the game atm. And the RLPA wants more.

Too many players on way too much.

Agreed. People can say what they want about Paul Kent but here he makes a valid point. The clubs have to make profits, it's no point just expecting the NRL to tip in money through the TV deal to get them back in the black when that could be spent other parts of the game (grassroots development, expansion, etc)

There's an argument before Superleague the players were not getting a fair piece of the pie. But this crap of wanting 'fixed share of the revenue streams' and being paid more to 'grow the game' sounds like bunch of baloney considering the money that's been thrown around right now.

"Paul Kent has said he is "concerned" about the state of wages in the NRL, wondering whether there is enough money in the game to keep funding players' salaries.

The Daily Telegraph released an NRL rich list on Sunday, highlighting the most expensive players in the game.

And it made Kenty think.

"I'm not too concerned about where the money's going, it's more whether we've got the money to spend it," he said on Triple M on Sunday.

"Its just natural that wages go up, that's evolution, that's just economic. But what the problem is, as this article points out today, is that last year the clubs ran at a record $53.4 million loss."

If player wages continue to rise and the circus continues, we will see clubs continually being held to ransom by player managers. The fact that 1m a season gets thrown around like its normal is sickening. Most clubs wont be able to afford those players and clubs like the Tigers, Panthers and Raiders will continually lose juniors on potential, developed juniors to big money offers and so on.

The clubs have to make profits

Majority of them are not for profit entities, even the ARLC is deemed to be run as a non for profit entity. The idea being that money made is spent on funding football operations from district to graded teams and equipment etc.

I remember once going to a presentation held by one of the clubs (not the Wests Tigers mind you) and without saying it, they basically said if they don't spend the money and run at or close to a loss (break-even is the goal) the handouts will stop.

Chooks and the NRL are just working out how they can get the contract on the books without to much flak. It will happen but the Chooks might be forced to release a reserve grader to squeeze Tedy onto their books for next year. Love the way they are saying they might have to release SKD, Gurea and Topou...They are not under contract for next year anyway, so no dollars are coming off their cap even if they do go. Expect another snow job

Yep....send us Watson & Mitchell

I agree. Reynolds is certainly a strong team player. He can produce when needed and just adds that spark to a side. I know a lot of people dont think much of him but I cant fault his attitude toward getting the 'W'.

The Tigers need people who want to win because losing is in their culture. E.T for instance hates to lose. Will break down before he's given up. Reynolds is similar.

Will he get away with all the dodgy crap at a non-protected club?

Life's Good,

In reply to you if you missed NRL 360 tonight, the following took place:

Kevin Walters answered, when asked how he would keep Dugan at the Dragons (if he were in charge there) now they have their halves signed up, that he would 'find' some TPA $$$$. Kent quickly rebuked that he wouldn't be allowed to do that. Walters then said he'd find some money under the salary cap.

Walter's response to refer straight to access of TPA money reaffirmed the ideology embedded in a few clubs.

That is TPA first, salary cap later. And of course, that the club will source them.

Ideology is generous. Blatant rorting is a more honest way to say it. Finding TPAs under a rock is how the Broncos Dogs and Roosters play the game. Totally ok under Turdy Greenburgs watch.

That was a f**k up ey?

He actually said as coach he'd be on the phone to find some TPAs before Kent told him that was illegal. So he's obviously learned somewhere that is how a coach keeps his players.

Thanks Spot On. It does have a smell about it doesn't. Its not really surprising when you look at what some clubs do vs. others and emphasises TPA, in in current form, is what you need to compete for players. Doesn't help when your TPA pool is limited though.

And you would know about their 2018 Cap....How? Oh that's right....You are a Supercoach

Neither Guerra (who is on good coin) or SKD will be there 2018. And more than likely neither will Ferguson. The Chooks will get him under easily as all the players I mentioned are not contracted next year. That's not all the cleanout either. They are shopping Nikorima, reportedly on 400K in his final season.
That's IF Tedesco comes

Really. ..maybe but kevvies just a pretty dumb f**k. What would he really know..what player contacts would he have ever negotiated..he's never been an nrl Head Coach. Closest he's been is running water and drills at training. He's representative of a lot of dumb f**ks in rugby-league that just don't know the rules but get a soap box to spruke from.
