When he was signed we were at the beginning of what has been a very long clusterf*ck of incompetence. He got signed for overs at the time which was crazy given that his only other option from the Broncos was withdrawn. Classic Doust stuff up(extending Steve Price being another). In that time he has become an Origin & Test player so in his mind that equals a pay increase so I see his point. Reality is the Dragons are trying to keep the figure in check hence why the lowball offer. Not sure how it will play out but with Mitch Rein & Benji Marshall as examples Duges could end up elsewhere on less or having to switch clubs for the same amount.

Dugan
2017 - 7 Games, 2 Trys, 3 Line Breaks, 0 Try Assists, 2 Line Break Assists
2016 - 17 Games. 2 Trys, 10 Line Breaks, 1 Try Assist, 4 Line Break Assists

Tedesco
2017 - 9 Games, 1 Try, 6 Line Breaks, 4 Try Assists, 7 Line Break Assists
2016 - 17 Games, 14 Trys, 15 Line Breaks, 12 Try Assists, 10 Line Break Assists

His defense does not make up for the difference in those stats plain and simple.

Throw in Tom T to better ball playing fullbacks too.

2017 - 9 games, 4 tries, 10 line breaks, 6 try assists, 8 line break assists
2016 - 23 games, 10 tries, 20 line breaks, 11 try assists and 8 line break assists

Moylan would be a better ball playing fullback too.

In all honesty I don't think the Dragons are "undervaluing" him, but with the money they are paying for Widdop and Hunt, they may not have the salary cap space to pay similar to Dugan also. Not unless they intend to not re-sign certain other players who will more than likely be looking at upgrades when they next come off contract (e.g. Debellin, Vaughan, Innes).

This. Saints progression this year has been off a pack of marauding forwards and Widdop. Whilst the Duges rates the Duges massively and the Duges believes the Duges is worth 1 mill a season, Saints should be tying up their fwds and blokes like Aitken before throwing the kitchen sink at the Duges.

I wouldn't put him ahead of Slater, Teddy, Boyd, RTS, Inglis, Tom Turbo or Moylan.

So don't see how he could be considered top 5. He probably scrapes in at no.8 atm and that doesn't include Hayne who might get back to his best.

Yep. And blokes like Ponga will be passing him in the next 12 months to 2 years as well.

Dugan cops a lot of flak because of how he looks and the ridiculous carry on everytime he gets a tap. However purely on what he produces on the field theres no denying the guy is a world class player. Sadly for Dragons fans it seems to me that he setting them up to leave.

Aitken has already re-signed for 3 years iirc

Hutty, to Bobby world class = best in the world in your position or very close to it.

Dugan is not that to Bobby....in any position.

I would define world class as being a member of a group of players, rather than the player who is considered the best.

Also, a world class player may not be the best player in any particular position but who may play in a number of positions where the player's performance exceeds those of the average player in respect of each of those positions.

Young player with a great running game and ability to beat his man 1:1. I like him, happy to disagree with you on this.
Dime a dozen, like I said. The rest of the dozen are probably bigger, can tackle, and pass as well.

I don't get why the dragons want to undervalue him. He has performed at origin level for years and like he said he is due to play his 7th test.

The whole 'he isn't a ball playing fullback' thing is dumb. How many ball playing fullbacks are actually better them him? Boyd is one, Slater is getting back there and i don't know if you can call Tedesco an amazing ball player but if you do then that makes 3. Dugan makes just as many chances as these players with pure strength running alone. In all other aspects of fullback play, safety at the back, kick defusing, defence, support play and kick returns he is just as good if not better then those 3 in those areas.
Indeed.

Who says you have to play the game like everybody else? Build the team around the players strengths. If The Dugan can't pass then don't put him in a position where he has too.

If Dugan plays 'NRL' consistently he is a world class player . . . it is what it is

McCrone is a world class player also by the same token

Moylan would be a better ball playing fullback too.

Jack Wighton compares favourably to Dugan too.

2017 - 8 games, 4 tries, 5 line breaks, 2 try assists, 4 line break assists
2016 - 23 games, 8 tries, 9 line breaks, 13 try assists, 17 line break assists

It's a very underrated part of Wighton's game, although I'm clearly not saying he's in the top echelon of fullbacks. I'd have Wighton over Dugan any day though.
