Found this one hard to call. Growing up, I always thought I'd be telling my grandkids about Sterlo, shaded Turvey and Alfie, but Johns eclipsed him.

Cronk lacks the individual game-breaking brilliance but his consistency, composure and game-management push Sterlo all the way I reckon.

Sterlo had to control and orchestrate a game that wasn't so structured. You didn't know where your field position /territory was going to come from in the 80s. Cronk is well and truely in a permanent comfort zone of knowing exactly what is going to happen in advance of each play and knowing that the rest of the team knows what is going to happen.

May not have been so many gaps from tired defenders and lack of structure for Sterlo in the modern game.

Different skills, for different times. both outstanding players and pretty much impossible to say who was best, better to say they were each best of their generation for the way the game was played in their era.

Sterlo.

The best players can perform whether their playing with Drongos or champions. Sterlo and Kenny carried the eels for a long time post 86.

Sterlo would have had too much integrity to get mixed up in the Storm tactics. He would probably have been man enough to confront Belly and say "hey man that is outside the spirit of the game. I don't need another boat and I don't want to give that guy a leg lock."
