Well it is a conscience issue. It's not in the same category as amending WHS laws or whatever. It's good to see pollies standing on principle rather than chasing votes.

Load of crap.

The postal vote is designed to allow the public to decide. You don't get to make your own decision after that.

Remember, Abbott designed the policy to kill the conscience vote. And fair enough, because I agree with letting the people decide. But of all politicians, Abbott is the one who cannot then go and cast a conscience vote if the results don't go his way.

Pure and utter hypocrisy.

We dont need a postal survey, its just politicians wasting $120 million because they want to be perceived as doing what is politically correct.

There have been enough polls on this and none of them are close.

They already know what the public want but they want to perform their political stunt anyway.

Complete waste of money.

Cooney of Fairfax and POV of Sky News have tweeted in the last 24 hours that they fear that NO vote will get up notwithstanding polling.

It all boils down to (for what reason I don't know) that Aussies tend to err on the side of caution. Hence why only 18% (?) of referendums and plebiscites have ever been successful since federation.

Yet when it comes to politicians, they will happily vote in a robust manner and roll their local member without a concern.

Polls? Not sure how reliable they are. If we went with polls Hillary Clinton would have be leader of the free world right about now. And it wasn't close in those polls
