The Rumours Thread

He did indeed have a blinder. And that's no rumour.
Yes Garreth was excellent today and played a real Captain's knock but didn't understand him giving up the last penalty.
Didn't quite understand why we packed our quickest player Dufty in at lock in the last scrum either.
I thought Sims was unbelievable today and suggest without his effort and passion today we would have also lost.

I agree with your post. Was at the game and said if I was Penrith I would have kicked straight away down field for a chase because Dufty was locked in to the scrum. No fullback.

It wouldn't have worked. Dufty was already moving across field and would have had enough time to cover the kick.

I don't think it's that big a deal. The defence usually numbers up off scrums anyway and why would we give up a potential overlap? Dufty was in a place where he was able to follow the ball, cover a potential kick and obviously the wingers can drop back too to cover the extra space. I'd say we do this to have as few disruptions to our defensive shape as possible.

Every team packs scrums that way

Would rather have my fastest player in open space covering a kick or a break rather than be in a heavy traffic position where he can be run off the ball, tripped over or crashed into and then rely on the bunker to make a decision on any interference.
Penrith should have put a big shove on the scrum and disrupted it and then kicked down field or chip kicked as it was by far their best option
In respect of our wingers covering off any breaks good luck with that as they haven't run anyone down all year.
