Maybe as a game as a whole, but not for the players.

That's like saying Matt Scott is a crap front rower because he lacks attacking playmaking skills.

No its not.

Front rowers who cannot kick 40/20's and put a kick on the chest of a winger, are acceptable.

Halves who miss 6+ tackles a game is not.

Well not if they want to be best of the best anyway.

what about halves who admit to taking drugs their whole careers? What are your thoughts on them?

People use this argument against Johns like he's the only player to ever take drugs. As we have seen over the last few years drug use especially cocaine and ecstasy is rampant in the nrl and pro sport as a whole. It would have been exactly the same in Johns era just with less testing and lower media coverage of these incidents. Look no further the Bromwich and Proctor getting on at a nightclub after a test match

Yes but it burns some people deeply that Andrew Johns is far and away the best rugby league player to have played the game in the last generation, so they need to hold onto this to make them deal with their denial.

So much this.

Every one of joeys rivals for greatest half of the modern era has at least had a dabble. Anyone who thinks otherwise is living in a fantasy world.

So if you admit to drug use, you aren't the best.

If you don't release a press statement that you took recreational drugs when you played, you are sweet.

Got it.

Anyone who used to see the King of the north in flinders street could probably attest to this

So Thurston is out of calculations.

He wears headgear. That's a placebo that he feels helps his performance.

Who else shall we eliminate?
Yes you're right, Thurston also wears footy shorts, socks and boots . . . not to mention favourite underwear . . . he'd probably get the shakes without them. Maybe we should create a pill that tastes like them

If anything recreational drugs on the weekends in a season would make you a worse player

Do people actually think cocaine and ecstasy use are performance enhancing? Lol

Didn't Joey say he couldn't take the field without a dabble . . . sounds about as feasible as your concoction

Crikey, is that what Joey was using . . . I know a little bloke when on Ice thinks he's a 1%er for a whole day

Theres no way players would dabble in ecstasy or cocaine before a game.

First of all those drugs double your heart rate, plus the strenuous excerise in a game of RL would triple it. You'd be a walking heart attack within 10 minutes

So you think a bloke with ears like a bat wears headgear to help his performance

No.

I am saying that it actually does nothing to enhance his performance, but in his mind it does.

Placebo.

You said that the rec drugs acted as a placebo for Johns, so I was making an analogy that anyone who has a placebo as part of their on field mindset has to be lumped into this category.
