At this point, it’s perfectly reasonable for fans to wonder which junior we’ll lose next.

Edwards? Cleary?

Why would anyone expect anything less? We have an insanely large nursery. It's fanciful to think that these players will both play to their potential (which I'm sure we all want) AND we'll be able to hold on to all of them.

I hope it's not the two you mention though.

I feel betrayed.
The club said many times he is staying.
His manager said last week he would be here.
He told his team-mates (source Trent Merrin on BSB radio) several times the whole rumour of him leaving was BS and he is stating

And now he leaves.

I know a few ex lower graders still got mates who play. All were adament (My oztag mates) the deal was done in Sept. Just waiting the best time to announce it

Which would make sense seeing Gorman has gone and Maloney got released while in WC camp

The way you keep your juniors is to develop a winning culture that they want to be part of. Without that, we will be forever just developing them and seeing them jump ship for more money or more success.

Is Griffin the guy to generate that winning culture?

Of course we can’t hold on to them all, but we have now lost some pretty good ones in Gus’ period.

Lewis
Jennings
Graham
Moylan
Austin
Coote

We should really be getting some salary cap concessions for producing players for other teams.

Statistically yes.

We had a shocking year off the field (which showed on it) in 2017 and still finished 6th......

Highest winning % Panthers coach ever.

We have made the finals 3 out of the last 4 seasons despite never looking like winning the comp. That is a pretty good start to a winning culture for players

Exactly only an idiot wouldn't see what other offers are around before signing a new deal

Moylan?
Didn't he extend with us last year without going to market?
One of the rumours about him being pissed off with the club, was he went to origin camp this year and found out he was getting underpaid. In his mind.

To be fair. Cleary the numpty didn't rate Austin as a half and Coote had Moylan in front of him. So both make good points

No Edwards he is 12 games in to a promising career. He should shop around then talk to us then decide

We beat Manly in the finals without him.So Moylan, despite his obvious talent, isn't a great loss. But getting Maloney is a sure fire winner with a mountain of experience that with shirley rub off onto the rest of the side.

Much greater times ahead.

I was annoyed when the story broke of him leaving in September now I am just over it. Had enough of the whole soap opera.
If he doesn't want to be here at my club then leave. No player is bigger than the club.

Maloney will be a better and more consistent halves partner for Cleary.

Reading a few neutral blogs/comments today and the overwhelming consensus is that we are getting the better deal here. Not much love out there for Moylan (other than Shark fans)

Would be the 3rd rated halves combination next year behind

Thurston/Morgan
Cronk/Keary (Pearce?)

then
Cleary/Maloney

I don't think he did it was for overs at the time but since then Ben Hunt is now a $1m player and so on. So I'd rather Edwards and Cleary test the market and then comeback

Take Moylan's FB achievements out. He is a rookie half swapped for a test player on paper looks like a steal. Defence, Penalties and Age aside of course
