Giving tips is always fraught with danger. I've only done it twice with one being a completely bullshit winner.

Back in the early 1980s, a nag called Twin Alps was running at Randwick on a bog track with Beadman on board and about 12s in the market. Beadman become indisposed after the previous race and was replaced by.......wait for it......Bill Camer. Out the backdoor it went in the betting after that announcement.

Twin Alps could run on quicksand by its effort that day and won by over five lengths. Being the old 50c unit days, it paid $19.35 for the win and $5 something for the place. Most of the Riverwood Pub backed it and sent the TAB broke. One good mate had $100 e/w on it while another didn't have a cent on it. He wanted to punch me out for not giving him the tip. Trouble is people I didn't even know backed it as well. I had $10 e/w on it.

The tip came from a lady at work who was the sister of the trainer Rob Thomsen. It wasn't even his horse! Ruby and me used to have our regular punting chit-chat on a Friday afternoon before knock off. She gave me several other winners but none anywhere near as good as Twin Alps.

This story makes my nipples happy

Great story.
Grew up in the area, remember the video store out the back more than the pub itself but I could picture the scenes....small fortune back then lol.

Quaterback at his best would put these away as easily as I put away a footlong sub.

Last start I thought he was actually tracking into the race okay but then as soon as he was put under pressure wilted badly... wouldn't surprise me completely if something went amiss that day and he runs much better today

I don't mind Palazzo Publico ew - Matthew Smith is a cunning little fox

Wow!!! I worked as a casual in that bottleshop cum general store cum video hire every Friday from 10 am to 6 pm. All I can say it was f**king hectic being there all day by yourself, especially after 4 pm.

That was in the days before product scanning so every item had a neat little sticker on it so it took an age to find it then enter it into the register.

I've got a heap of stories about my time in the bottleshop.

Avoiding the next couple completely....might try & nab Lane again with Smart Coupe in the last but it's a damn tough race with several chances.

I'm sure you do....I remember the vid store in the mid-late 80s (87-88)...went there a few times & the parents grabbed liquor & snacks while I looked for weeklies.
Eventually moved onto Showstopper at Mortdale (R.I.P)...
My mum didn't frequent the joint a lot but did see Chisel & Dragon back there around 79 or 80 or something.

Reckon they all go to the outside here. Highly geared might get to the front on the outside rail and be hard to run down.

Tough race
