No chance Bellamy picks him over Ado-Carr or Vunivalu, and no chance Bennett picks him over Oates or Kahu. In fact, I'm hard pushed thinking of a Top 8 side that he'd slot straight into the starting line of...
Maybe, but maybe they will slot him into another position...good coaches will find things for good players to do....for f**ks sake Ben Creagh started as a winger and Brent Kite was a centre.

Wouldn't beat David Nofoaluma for a spot at Tigpies let alone top 8 teams.

Probably not OT. I understand this isn't a forum for sentiment but I have a big girl crush on Nighty, He's not injury prone and he still racks up the points. Add to that he gives 100% every game he plays. Let him play out 2018 and I'm sure he'll move on to retirement after this season.

Lol such rubbish! What other position would he play in our team, let alone a top 8 team?

I love Nighty Saintsfeild but this will be his last year me thinks. McGregor needs to find his replacement and play him now.
Maybe, not disputing that, but to say he is shit based on his current timeline of success this year is wrong...noone can say he won't do as well in 2018.

This is true. No one has a crystal ball. What isn't in dispute(not saying you are BTW) is we have a stock of juniors that the clubs appears committed to and something has to give. That might be Nighty or it could be Lafai, Aitken or McDonald either way these 4 need need to kick off the year firing(there is still no guarantee Supercoach will budge).

He's knows he's the slowest winger in NRL.Thats why when he renegotiate...he said,Just pay me whatever. Hey ,he's hanging on by his fingernails & he's scared if he misses a game he's not getting his spot back.
Wake up and smell the roses he's a dead man walking....
If your such a good old boy Nightingale stand aside & let a young bloke have a go...
I also think that Nightingale is closing in on the record for the most first grade games played by anyone from St George or Illawarra.

it's pretty funny, isn't it... people on here are always whinging and complaining that we can't get quality players, can't keep good players etc etc..

and yet if we were talking about attracting from another club an incumbent test winger, who was the team's leading try scorer (and to finish top 6 tryscorers out of 400 top grade players in the NRL isn't too bad either..) who can also play fullback, we'd be creaming ourselves at the thought of getting him..

TBH i believe that BBTB is just trolling, so i wouldn't get too riled up about him..

either that or he's actually a junior winger for the dragons who can't get a spot based on merit...
I don't think that BBTB is trolling at all. Nightingale is too slow. It is plain as day. He should have retired from the NRL at the end of last year.

Out of curiosity, how old is Nightingale? I ask this because even though he's been playing first grade for over a decade now, there are plenty of examples those who have featured longer.

Maybe it's a case of "apples and oranges", however someone such as Andrew Ettingshausen kept on plugging away for 18 seasons.

Personally, I feel 'Gypsy' has more to offer.

I don't think it is the age that matters, it's the ability to do the job. In the Dragon's case it is the lack of speed in our backline. It's alright to sacrifice a spot in our NRL squad as a sign of respect and gratitude for all Nightingale has done for the Club but is another step to hold up the progress of a young outside back who may just have the speed to win us an important game or two.

yeah.. but.. he scored the most tries for us last season..

which says to me the issue with our attack is not found in the happy haka...

Basically Jason is a top class winger. There are 4 or 5 I prefer above him in the comp but that's about it. He has never been a fast winger. Even at his best when we won the comp 2010, he could never strike from long range. I have seen him hold on to score from 50 metres out but chasers were making ground on him.

That acknowledged, so much up side:

-Moves quickly and has initial take off drive. A slow winger but not slow player.
-Uncanny positional sense and awareness of the space where he needs to be in the moment.
- Scores plenty of trys each season in a team which has struggled in past 5 seasons. Yes, like all wingers a fair degree of catch and score but can beat opposition players and scramble over. The guy is a try scorer regardless of which side of field he plays.
- Very spectacular swan driving trys at times. That's pretty funky!
- A good attacking and defensive high ball catcher
- A good defender with deceptive defensive strength
- Very good in heavy traffic carries. Good stamina all round.
- A competent fullback
- Long term player discount so cheap on salary cap.

Sum up / Therevaa few better wingers around than nighty but a plenty worse.
