Then why do so many players re sign with him as coach? Moylan and Cartwright left for much discussed reasons, Peachey wants a permanent starting spot. Other than these who has left? One support staff has gone, who else? Maybe Hook is difficult, but something is obviously working.

Forgot to mention our performances. We look like a team that is frustrated and distracted right now. When is the last time you saw Isaah Yeo with a pissweak defensive effort?

There are a lot of reasons to want to be at Penrith besides the coach.

Im not saying hook is constantly on peoples bad side, but it seems like over the course of a season there is always an issue at some point with someone he is working with. It doesn't take much to make a playing group go from performing with 100 percent effort to say 95 percent effort. It doesn't take much of a drop to go from a top four side to a 5-8th placed side. Keeping players keen and motivated(player managing) for a whole season or at least timing it for a good run at the finals is the most important part of being a head coach and hook cant do it.

We can't have endless staff either. Someone had to go for Wallace to come

Just stop.

https://wwos.nine.com.au/2018/07/14...ragons-sign-nsw-blues-assistant-luke-Phillips

"THE Dragons have scored a major coup in the lead-up to the finals, signing New South Wales State of Origin assistant coach Luke Phillips - effective immediately.

Several Blues players rated Phillips’ influence as a key factor in the recent series win over Queensland.

A former Roosters grand final fullback and first grade referee, Phillips has been on the Panthers’ staff for the past two seasons.

But sources have told WWOS that Panthers head coach Anthony Griffin made little use of Phillips’ knowledge, opening the door for his switch of clubs this weekend.

Phillips’ manager, former Wests halfback Josh White, said the ex-Roosters, Manly and Cowboys fullback was in hot demand.

“Quite a few clubs had heard that Luke is a first grade coach in the making and expressed interest in him,” White said.

“But we thought that the Dragons were the best fit and he is grateful to (Panthers supremo) Phil Gould for letting him go now.”

Phillips will work in a dual capacity as a defensive coach and advisor on matters pertaining to refereeing.

Having refereed alongside many of the current group of officials, he knows their likes and dislikes - something that can give teams an edge.

The article says we weren't using him though that is my point.

You can't on the one hand say we went to shit AFTER he left if the reason he left was he wasn't being used.

The article says Griffin wasn't using him and given how highly he seems to be regarded by the blues players and other clubs I'd say Griffin not using him is dumb as f**k, we are one of the most penalised teams in the game ffs and he is a former ref. Either way I daresay he has tipped the dragons about everything he knows about Penrith.

The fact that penalties are a big issue for us and Griffin still refused to seek advice and knowledge from a former ref he had on staff speaks volumes about Griffin and his controlling nature IMO. Phillips knows all the refs and we didn't use him? How stupid is that???

There is no way we have no defensive coach though. So we have someone doing it.

Someone who maybe wasn't going to be missing during origin maybe? There is a reason both origin teams don't use assistants with club affiliation.

Refs have confirmed they visit all teams at training to go through stuff.

Mate you are reaching, he left because he wasn't being used his manager has said it. Griffin is a moron for not using him, a former ref, to help us reduce the amount of penalties we give away.

Also Phillips was aligned to Penrith and yet an assistant for the blues? Josh Hanny is an assistant for both the cowboys and QLD.

It says he left because we made LITTLE use of his knowledge. Not no use of it. We had a great resource that Hook wasnt using to its potential.

If he was our defensive coach and has been out of the club since Origin... for Origin and then leaving for the Dragons. Well that's when our club turned to shit.

So we had no defense coach all year?

The manager would know why he left that isn't in question. I question if he was in surplus to needs given his upcoming position with the origin team.

Only the board and Gus know if that was the case but I highly doubt any NRL side doesn't have an assistant for attack and an assistant for defense.

And this great resource is now at a top four club no doubt being utilised more effectively which will no doubt include spilling his guts about Penrith if we have to play them.

Why would we let an assistant go mid season after two years?? The guy is now working for a contender, Do you think that is good for us? lol wtf. We would not make that choice unless Phillips gaveus no choice.

Dragons have lost 3 out of their last 4 too. So we aren't the only one struggling since origin.

Both Mansour and Whare said post game we'd have to work on defense through the week.

So we must have someone doing it in Phillip's place. So who? Have they been there all year?

I don't see why we'd let assistant do Origin in the 1st place. So the whole thing makes no sense

No one ever said he was the defensive coach stop clinging to that. I said our defence has gone to shit since he left. Doesn't mean he was responsible for the defence himself or at all.
