Maybe Ivan and the Tiges are playing us? Ivan gets Nathan to sign a contract with a getout clause after Ivan has secretly pledge alliance to us so he can screw us as revenge when he does a back flip and takes Nathan with him to the tiges. Evil mind.

What would be the point? Gus has said all along that he would release Nathan if he ever wanted to go and play for his father, the contract just puts that agreement in writing.

Ivan has maintained a close relationship with a few members of our board. I really can’t see him screwing his mates over.

The longer it takes to confirm Nathan the more I worry it won't happen.
I don't think that this Ivan clause would be a sticking point. In fact the whole thing smells like BS. The media needed to fuel the fire when it became apparent that Penrith were happy to keep Ciraldo in the job. So along comes Brent Read with his "whispers". It's not in either of the Cleary's interests to drag it out. Anyway , it's always been the case that Nathan can walk whenever he wants.
Stop worrying OP, it's all going ahead earlier than we thought.

You worry too much.

I really do. All it takes is one thing to be off with negotiations.

Well Nathan himself said 90% a few things etc. But I have no doubt you guys are correct. I just over think things.

Luke Brooks says it would be ‘difficult’ to play under Ivan Cleary if he signs for Panthers from 2021

WESTS Tigers halfback Luke Brooks has admitted it would be “difficult” to play under Ivan Cleary should the coach take up an offer from the Panthers from 2021
Penrith are reportedly in deep negotiations with Cleary to return to the foot of the mountains.

Cleary is currently contracted at the Tigers until the end of 2020 but should he sign, his position at the club could become untenable.

Brooks said having a coach with one eye on another club could be a distraction.
“It’s a tough one. I think it could be difficult if we knew that a coach is already going two years down the track,” Brooks told NRL Tonight.

“We don’t know if it’s going to happen but if it does we will worry about it when it gets to that point.”
Cleary has been strongly linked to the Panthers ever since club boss Phil Gould sensationally sacked coach Anthony Griffin midway through the season.

Assistant coach Cameron Ciraldo was placed in charge for the remainder of 2018 and led the side to the second week of the finals where they eventually lost to the Sharks.

Ciraldo had reportedly been rewarded with an offer to coach the Panthers for at least 2019.

It is understood should the Tigers allows Cleary to leave early, the club would seek compensation from the Panthers in the form of cash and players.
Former NSW Blues coach Laurie Daley said Cleary could not continue at the Tigers, should he sign with the Panthers from 2021.

And Daley had a clear replacement in mind.

“I’d get on the front foot if I was the Wests Tigers and I’d be making a phone call to Ivan and saying, ‘Mate what are you doing?’,” he said on The Big Sports Breakfast on Thursday.

“And if he says he’s going to honour his contract but he wants to go to Penrith in 2021 I’d be making a phone call to Michael Maguire trying to get a deal done and trying to get some compensation off Penrith to release Ivan to go straight away.

“Michael Maguire would be my number one target if I was CEO of the Tigers.”

The Tigers cant decide to let Cleary go early and them demand compensation for it. They will only release him if they lamnded another coach anyway.

They either keep him for 2 more years knowing he's leaving them or move on to another coach. We're happy to wait. We shouldnt compensate Tigers for making a decision they already feel is in their best interest.

Exactly. He comes off contract 2021. If we want him as a coach for then, then we have every right to make a play. The Tigers do too. They can't place the blame on us because if Ivan is given the choice to stay or go and goes, it says more about his own personal decision then greed from us. I understand there is thinking behind this that he then will come early as it is untenable but that's besides the point, we shouldn't have to wait 5 years because of that.

Daleys not the sharpest tool in the shed, they got fans rinign up talking about getting Waqa and RCG for Ivan and Daleys like "yeah that could work".

Like you've said we will just wait and if they are stupid enough to keep him on then we just wait for the shit to hit the fan.

Disagree re; compensation. We can't get on our high horse & say it's their choice to let Cleary go when we've (& Cleary) painted them into a corner. The Tigers will sign a new coach for this year, we'll pay them some $$$ or give them a player, & everyone will move on with their lives.

It is their choice. We don't have to pay because we outsmarted them, paying someone when you don't have to or giving away more players would be stupid.
