Whare is definitely not slow. He's not a speedster like Blake but he's got plenty for a centre.

Average speed is probably a better term. Kikau would be faster, CHN was too. Certainly not someone you can kick early for which limits the attacking options is my point. Having DWZ outside him is much better

I can't remember who it was that asked what is the type of player we like... Summed up right here. Just once I would love a speedy centre with footwork. Instead of the big one that probably gets moved to the backrow at some stage
Waqa Blake's our quick guy. It'd be nice to have someone else like him but those who are quick but still have the strong/have the attitude enough for first grade are rare. Generally quick guys tend to be a liability like Bevan French or Dufty.

Terrible in defence too. That is the upside in bigger bodies. Better in defence and coming off the line. The downside is it limits attack

Cleary's signature to help Penrith retain and recruit NRL talent
Penrith boss Phil Gould is convinced locking up star halfback Nathan Cleary for the next six years will help the club retain and recruit players and keep their NRL premiership window open.

Cleary on Monday committed to a five-year contract extension, three months after fellow NSW Origin representative Reagan Campbell-Gillard penned a similar deal.
"This is a contract built on potential, it comes with great responsibility," said Gould, who described it as the biggest deal he had been been involved in.

"This is still a contract he will grow into over time.

"We know that he's going to be an outstanding member of our club and it will also help us retain players, or recruit players if we have to do that down the track."
Arguably the most popular player with Penrith fans and members, Cleary opted against testing his value on the market when he would become available to receiving offers from rival clubs.

The club will now turn its attention to locking up first-grade regulars Waqa Blake, James Fisher-Harris and Sione Katoa, all of whom are off contract at the end of next year.

They will also have to replace the holes left by the departing Tyrone Peachey (Titans) and Corey Harawira-Naera (Bulldogs).
"This year we've extended the contract of Reagan Campbell-Gillard and Viliame Kikau and we've got a few more to do before the end of next year,' Gould said.

"Salary cap pressure has meant that we've had to move Corey Harawira-Naera and Tyrone Peachey this year. But we haven't had any player put himself on the market and I'm not surprised Nathan was exactly the same."

Cleary's decision ended any chance of him joining his father Ivan at the Wests Tigers, where his dad is contracted as head coach until the end of 2020.
He still hopes he will work with his father one day and that Ivan will have a second stint at Penrith, where he was coach for four seasons before being sacked at the end of 2015.

Gould pointed out Cleary had now signed two contracts with Penrith since his father had left.

"I've been here since I was 14, so they've pretty much taught me everything I knew," Cleary said.

"I came over here from New Zealand. I think if I never made that trip over and dad never got the coaching job here, I honestly don't even think I would be playing first grade.

"I owe it all to the Panthers and I do owe this club."

Speaking of Matty Johns I would love for him to come in and coach Cleary and Luai (if he sticks around), he might be a goofball most of the time on TV but he is a well respected halves coach in the game, even him talking about the role of halves is very intelligent, there was a segment on NRL 360 about him breaking down what halves are taught to play these days and what they should play instead and was really good insight.

JFH was great at the start of the year but tailed off. He's a run of the mill forward IMO. I personally would sooner let him go then Tamou.

That’s 1000 games of experience leaving at once.

Gus might manage the cap well but he doesn’t manage the needs of the roster well.
How much has the Tamou and Merrin experience helped us? Experience means shit if you're playing like shit.

We need an experienced player that performs for us like Mez did in 2016. Not experienced players performing like fringe first graders.

Sure, but he signed them originally didn’t he?

If he’s getting rid of them because they aren’t performing then we need other experienced players to take their place. Or we need to wait a while longer before we can really compete.

Young teams rarely win the title. We clearly haven’t brought in the experience we need to compete.

With that said Tamou has been playing better of late.

Wouldn't say run of the mill but I don't think he should be too high on our priority list.

Happy to let Tamou and JFH walk. Priority should be signing an experienced forward.

He did seem to have the medical bib on most weeks as the year went on. He wasn't too bad output wise. His issue was the dumb penalties late in the count
