Lol you were VERY quite mid year
I was very quiet until there were about 6 rounds left because we were just bleh. RCG isn't any different, there's just no replacements here any better than him now. A toiler is needed and so he's no great offence, but he's way over valued and we could probably offload him and get much better for the same expense. And if he's on the outer then there's hope.

Stats aside, I just felt like he was at least having a go at the back end of the year. We seemed to play better once he got on the field.
The first two (from memory, definitely the first) tries against the Warriors were off the back of his quick play the balls. Katoa is average but his strength is his running, and he was getting absolutely f**k all to work off from Merrin and RCG making him look even worse than he is. In that game Tamou came on and straight away scattered the markers and Katoa turned it into a try.

And while we're on it JFH is deadset average with the ball and has to earn his place in the team with his defence, and his defence is inconsistent between decent and brilliant. I don't know if it is brilliant often enough but he'll probably get better and we have bigger problems elsewhere tbh.

Tamou isn't flashy so doesn't get noticed for the good stuff he does. He had a few simple misses on tries which didn't help

Agree entirely.

Also feel a bit the same with Leota in the back half of the year. Was more solid without being too noticeable.

Which works when errors aren't made. Things like the try Tamou let in v Sharks at Shark park or his miss on Johnson over there. Is what sticks in people's mind

Are we ignoring the multiple people who have changed their opinion over this season. Most would have him at least on the bench now.

His wage hasn't changed though that seems to be the issue . A lot of that is due to how bad Merrin and RCG were.
Yep. On a value for money basis Tamou, Mez and RCG all shit the bed this year. Between their experience, wage and what we know they're capableof it's extremely disappointing.

Mckendry has been injured for what feels like half a decade now and looked like our best front rower in his cameo for the season.

Front row should be the least of our concerns considering the money invested in experienced players. On paper we have 3 internationals with Origins and finals behind them. Yet on the field they rarely looked that good.

I can live with his wage. It's worse when paired with Merrin. Both need to fire to be worth it but Merrin hasn't in 2 years(I think that's a fair amount of time to judge). Tamou is starting to show something all be it not superstar material but something.

1. Move on Merrin and Mckendry.

2. Go to Market to stack the forwards.

3. Profit.

I did the average for our pack per game. Sorted in RM not one of them averaged 100m a game. On a per min Tamou was the best of a bad bunch

The number on the left is their ranking amongst the forwards in the comp for that category

I din't agree with the consensus on here that our front rowers were ordinary in 2018.

We were near the top of the ladder at the midway point of this season, despite a horrific injury toll, which was because of forwards were performing well and James Maloney was fit and healthy.

James Tamou was our best front rower over the entire season and I thought he was very good.

Trent Merrin was an outside chance of SOO selection given his strong start to the year which makes his finish to the season all the more difficult to explain.

RCG and all of our other front rowers had injury issues so there were reasons why they didn't enjoy success seasons.

I think our front row rotation at there best, fully fit is not far behind the best in the competition but we just lack the one game breaking front rower such as Martin Taupau who is capable of player 60-80 minutes, guaranteed 200 metres plus per games with offloads and second phase play.

We are so close to having a top four roster and perhaps a premiership winning side but there a couple of pieces to the jigsaw missing which include a world class front rower and another representative quality outside back.

RCG's attitude is atrocious. The club will work with him over the off-season.
He was firing towards the back end of last season barring a couple pre origin games hasn't been the same since. But then again JWH has been plodding for about 5 years and look at him now. It's hard to predict whether these talented but inconsistent guys are worth it but you need to take a gamble like that.

Tamou was definitely creating the most quick play the balls out of any front rower in our team towards the back end of the year. According to Fox Sport he had 6 line breaks which is pretty high for a prop who spend most of year on the bench.

RCG has always played his best football for us coming off the bench. That’s when we have really seen him shine. I don’t think I remember a game where he had as much of an impact as he has had coming off the bench after the first 20 minutes.

It makes sense too - his build is more akin to that of some wingers than it is to a lot of front rowers - tall and wirey, and quite quick. With that kind of build it is easier to maintain high cardiovascular fitness which is why I think he has such a dominant effect once the starting front rowers of the other team are either off the bench or are tiring.
