Nathan Cleary has signed a new deal and perhaps only his dad, manager, Gus and Nathan himself know what he is going to be earning for the next six seasons.

We can all argue about whether he is worth $1,000,000-00 or more per season for his footballing exploits but at the end of the day it is also a business.

Nathan Cleary is big business for the Panthers in terms of marketing, merchandise, memberships and is the player who brings in the most dollars to our club.

While not being solely responsible for the increase in our membership numbers it is a fact he is hugely popular in the teenage demographic, both male and female.

He's only going to become better value for money as his skill level and experience go up along with the salary cap.

Unless ofcourse he turns to shit. We havent really had a big contract player deliver on their contract in a long time.

They either perform well below what they should be delivering, or fail to see out their contract for whatever reason. Surely we're due to get a decent return on our investment with Nathan.

He was part of Fitler's staff this year.
if that means less injures... then great news!
Brisbane are reputed to have the best staff money can buy and they still had plenty of injuries this year. I think it just comes with so many young players in a team. Considering how this year most of them were contact injuries I don't know how a strength and conditioning coach helps that. Do more more jaw push ups to prevent more broken jaws?

Hopefully this isn't to replace whomever we have now (given we are already the fittest team in the competition, I'd hate for us to be losing whomever we have currently).

The head of performance was with Griffin from Brisbane and Redcliffe so can only assume some of the Griffin hires are leaving

Nathan Cleary will deliver value for money unless he suffers unforeseen serious injuries. He is not the finished product but is a quality player, quality person and just the type of individual to build the foundations of our club upon.

If we are only paying him $1M or a little more on the salary cap then I don't have a problem given there are lesser players playing in the same position earning the same sort of money.

His value to this club is immense and cannot be underestimated.

Also his marketing value is invaluable. I also doubt that the Panthers will be paying an huge, and inflated, amount. I am pleased Nathan is staying, and I have no doubt Ivan will becoming soon too.

I love CHN he is a wonderful person, great footy player, great club man but at the end of the day he was released early because we have an over supply of second rowers such as Corey Waddell, Liam Martin, Billy Burns & Sean Blore who are likely to emerge in the next season or two for less money in the short term. I am really sad to see CHN go but that is the business we are in. The same applies to Tyronne Peachy so sad to see him leave but I can accept it knowing the nature of this business.

It is refreshing to be in this position. The pre Gus era still haunts me.

Mick Leary was our long term General Manager before Phil Gould took over the reigns.

Mick Leary was a true Panther thru and thru and no one could ever question his commitment to the club but at the end of the day despite being in charge for 16 years he didn't deliver any success and we were in a total shambles when Phil Gould took over the running of the club.

I think many on here have short memories because as supporters we endured a lot of pain during that 16 year period and here we find ourselves in a period of relative success in terms of making the semi finals year in year out but apparently that is not good enough for some.
