Mick Leary was our long term General Manager before Phil Gould took over the reigns.

Mick Leary was a true Panther thru and thru and no one could ever question his commitment to the club but at the end of the day despite being in charge for 16 years he didn't deliver any success and we were in a total shambles when Phil Gould took over the running of the club.

I think many on here have short memories because as supporters we endured a lot of pain during that 16 year period and here we find ourselves in a period of relative success in terms of making the semi finals year in year out but apparently that is not good enough for some.

If people want to settle because we were once a shambles that's fine. Some want to win the comp.

What is the point of playing finals if you don't then turn it into a premiership?

Over the last 5 years.

Storm
Broncos

Have made the finals every year.

Us, Roosters, Sharks, NQ and Souffs have only missed one year.

We are the only ones on that list to not play in a GF. So yes this is a good period for the club given the history.

Overall it is becoming a wasted chance

Mick Leary used to be my principal at high school. Yes he was passionate, however, he was out of his depth.

Agreed. A lot of overrating going on with our players.
Roosters just won the comp with a roster many here didnt think was even top 4 material. Playing with 12 people basically (Cronk being busted) Winning the competition doesnt require the best player in every position.

Just need to hit form at the right time. Have a game plan that utilises what you have available and ofcourse have everyone perform on the day.

If everyone in our team was in peak form and fitness at once we could beat any team. Our problem is that is lucky to happen more then a couple of times in a season.

Spine stays fit and we are an outside shot imo.

Edit. Also need a captain with actual leadership qualities and for Maloney to pull his head in

Very concerned about experience in the spine however Maloney has done it all, Cleary has played 3 consecutive finals series and played for his state, Katoa finals XP and international XP. It must count for something.

Captaincy is also just as pressing. I saw some positive signs from Cleary back end of the year but we need another leader right now. It can't be Maloney.

If we had an experienced 9 I'd be a lot more confident.

I believe we will see the best from Nathan now that Hook is gone.

And we don't? Seriously? My point is that we are getting closer.

This comment is settling:

First off, as you can believe Gus when talking off season changes....
Gould's word doesn't mean much of course, but there's nothing around to suggest otherwise in this case.

I didn't think Roosters had the forwards, but they had unheralded ones who stepped up and filled the void. Tell me who will be our rampaging middle forward from out of nowhere and I'll gladly listen.

Yes, and most of them are the same ones overrating our squad. Funny that.

Their forward pack looked terrible coming into this year and got dominated last year. They turned up presumably due to the wingers getting so many metres per game and Cronk's game management.

They arent overrating the squad. They just rate it higher then you do. Your opinion is not a fact.

If Mansour and Whare return in peak form, Edwards returns from injury well and everyone builds from 2018 our squad is f**king awesome.

We have a lot of 2018 big game rep players through the team (DWZ, JFH, RCG, Cleary and Maloney) and we then have the likes of Blake, Kikau and Yeo who all had better seasons then those guys did. With arguably none of them even playing at their best for most the year.

I dont rate our hooking options all that high. And im not a fan of the return we have gotten on the investment we got from the likes of Tamou and Mez. But we made week 2 of finals with a lot of disruptions through they year and barely playing to our potential at all.

We were one win behind the minor premiers. In a year where we had no one play well all season. We have flaws and question marks in our roster. But that's true for every team.

We can easily make up alot of ground with the same squad.
