Anyone would think some of you people are paying for it personally.

The logo looks good.
You want to be able instantly recognise it on a phone or iPad or anywhere.

Look at the simplest logos on your phone.
Facebook
Spotify
WhatsApp
Skype

Or others like MacDonalds , apple, Nike
Basic
One or two colours.
The difference is there is they are worldwide brands. Nobody knows there is 2 rugby’s let alone the NRL. It’s a step backwards IMO.

Maybe the “NRL” bit gave it away?
To the uninitiated, the National Rugby League is the national competition for Rugby League.

Likewise, the National Basketball League is the national competition for Basketball League.

I'm guessing that @Pommy is implying the name "Rugby League", especially as "NRL", doesn't really suggest that there are two rugby codes unless you have prior knowledge.

Sorry I’m lost.
One says NRL
The rugby union ones are not even remotely close to that.

Seriously how many people are going to accidentally watch to a union game instead of an NRL because of the logo?

I was referring to these posts:

How did the old logo make people more aware there were two rugby’s?

And missed this one:

What the f**k are you rambling on about?

I think we agree on the point and had our wires crossed - not having NRL in the logo is probably not the best for continuity but I doubt it would make the "two rugby codes" issue any more confusing than it already is to untapped markets.

In other news, there is a video with the NRL branding on their site for the new draw. There's some club logos combined with the new shield at around 1:50. The Dragon in their logo appears to have been redrawn for this application at least.

Sorry, I didn’t mean the logo had much to do with “the 2 rugby’s” but more so our sport is unknown, it seems backwards going to a logo that is a shape and two v’s.
Everyone knows a NIke swoosh, or Adidas 3 stripe.
Wtf is a shape and 2 v’s and the main word is PREMIERSHIP

All good for me and Johnny Bogan down the pub, but show this new logo to a yank...

Really digging the club logos on first look.

It would be great it they could have the same standard across all digital channels (i.e FOX and Nine use them in their broadcasts as well).

How was the old one any better though? A yank is likely to assume this a union league rather than another sport.

So imagine if no one knew anything about these sports:

I don't see the point of these club logos. There is no consistency. Some are fully enclosed by the shield and some spill over. The Manly one has a big chunk of marroon on the bottom right which looks awful. If they wanted a stramlined logo to use for each club using the the new shield, then they should have designed something form scratch rather than use existing club logos which don't work in mono colour. I hope they don't stipulate the broadcasters to use these logos in their coverage. I think Fox do a much better job using their own graphics.

I really doubt the new logo would be shown to new markets in complete isolation. The entire brand seems to heavily focused on working with the game's imagery and modern technology is more than capable of showing the logo overlaid on images and video that would serve to show what the NRL actually is.

All that's missing is the "NRL" moniker and since the league is already well known in Australia and NZ, the local audiences will catch on pretty quick. The NRL will probably take a slightly different tack with untapped markets and include "NRL" prominently in targeted media.
