And replace him with who?

RCG, Tamou and Leota are fine as our top 3 props. Grant Cleary hates. McKendry keeps getting injured. Hetherington and co need another season atleast.

If he hadn't of retired I would of said Jason Clark. Sam Tagatese has won a comp. Shaun Fensom is experienced. There is a few guys in England that might want to come home.

There is many options that offer experience and can do that 4th prop role well for a fraction of what Merrin costs

You think that a former representative, premiership winner, with 200+ NRL games experience is that easily replaced.

This isn’t fantasy footy, you move a player like Merrin on, he has to be replaced with someone of similar experience. That’s a no brainer.

And similar experience costs similar money. I'd rather he stays and finds his form. The huge revolving door at the front of Panthers is symbolic of our player situation (and coaches too I might add). It is the reason we aren't getting past the second week of the finals IMHO.

RCG is now the current NSW and Australian player filling that role. Yeo has also grown into a leader

RCG is now a rep prop.

So that cancels out that side of Merrin.

The premiership.. Clark and Tagatese have.

204 FG games.. Tagatese 172. Clark 169

So very minimal. Clears up cap space and certainly provides more than 1 hitup in a semi

our depth isn't getting any stronger and injuries are part of footy. I agree with that part but for me it is the releasing and not replacing with similar. To replace Merrin with a rookie like Martin is a mistake but if we bring in an older head it is fine

New coach of course but most of the side seems set

??
Mansour
Blake
Whare
??
Maloney
Cleary
RCG
??
Leota/Tamou
Kikau
Yeo
JFH

Tamou/Leota
Merrin
??
??

Outside of Hooker and FB the starting side seems set. Leeds offering money is different to us showing him the door. Remembering this isn't Ivan's squad so to have a squad spot free and a bit of cash helps him get someone to suit his style then why not?

I merely pointed out options that fit the smaller workhorse type player that Ivan seems to like

It's been answered but Merrin is easily covered. Especially sonce he's had two bad years now.

Oh my hat. I don’t know where to start with this.

Are you suggesting that we let Merrin go, because RCG has started playing rep and that cancels out all of Merrins experience? All the training sessions he’s attended over the years with all of the different coaches. The different players his played with etc. He knows what it takes to win on every level. You think RCG now takes that role.

And we should replace him with one someone like the two you mentioned.... give me a break. This is plain dumb.

Didn't we let Peachey and CHN go due to them getting great deals elsewhere? Those 2 are yet to peak unlike Merrin that is on the way down. He is 4th prop here at best. He's influence on the young guys has been invaluable.

CHN was surplus to our needs and we couldn’t match the Gold Coasts offer. Different circumstances.
