Knights now more attractive than Bulldogs (no offense, Newy). Des, Dib and that hot little number Raylene did a number on that joint.

Huge signing Knights. This should set their goals higher than just the top 8. Exciting year ahead for them imo

Does anyone else reckon Knights might get pinched for breaching the salary cap?

Not having a go at you Knights fans - you just seem to be signing a shitload of (decent) players.

It was public knowledge that we had a ton of cap space, we were looking at being fined for not spending enough of the cap, we still have enough left for another decent signing and some upgrades, finally free from the shitstorm bennett left

Now you mention it I remember that.

Cheers for the explanation - my observation was just as an outsider looking in not really paying attention to all the details.

The backline is still garbage and they don't have a decent hooker. Sneaking into the 8 is the best they can hope for

1. Watson
2.Lee
3.ramien
4.moga
5.SKD
6.ponga
7. Pearce

13.barnett
12.Guerra
11.fitzgibbon
10.klemmer
9.levi
8.Glasby

14. ese ese
15.buhrer
16.saifiti
17.matautia

They would want to aim for more than just scraping into the 8 after buying a whole squad bar 3 or 4 players.

At least every week a player will aim up because they are playing against their old club.

It would be one of the greatest blunders ever considering the personnel turnover and constant publicity over the amounts the old brigade were on that Brown turfed (Jarrod Mullen 750K per season as an example - how and why????) and the battles to sign anyone of note (Matt Scott, Jack Bird etc) and the amounts the club were prepared to spend on them were pushed very hard onto the media at every opportunity and for good reason. To keep the rest honest. Brown went to great lengths to push that agenda for quite some time.

Not only that, Brown's mantra has been to avoid the situation the roster was left in when he took over. Has not paid overs as the club quickly did in the past for less credentialled players.

At one stage, not long ago, the pressure was on to actually start spending so as not to incur a penalty.

Even after the Klemmer deal I thought there was still enough cap space to buy another decent player??? Other Knight's supporters could help there.

Players like Ramien and now Ponga are absolute bargains as well.

If they are to hit trouble then Brown just wasted the last 3 years and put himself through much pain and ridicule to wait to do it.

Not impossible but surely not likely.

Oh and Umina Panther has pointed out the backline is garbage so plenty of work for Brown to do and plenty of cash to spend to replace all of those players.

The Knights would still have a bit of change tucked in the back pocket, we have 1 more roster slot to fill and my understanding was they were looking for another quality signing. They may change tact now that Klemmer is over the line, though... there's going to be a lot of players expecting upgrades down the track over the next 3 seasons. Keeping the squad evolving and the core components together will be difficult. We'll probably want to keep some space for that. Keeping Ponga is going to take a herculean effort... and may not be possible depending on who you talk to.

All in all I think we've seen the vast majority of Newcastle's spending spree for the forseeable future... it's going to be about grooming youngsters to fill spots and keeping the core of the squad together from here. Good chance that Klemmer is the last notable signing. Good to finish with a bang.
