CA took a dump on the entire team when it was a cut and dry case of repeated racism (he had said it before and promised Symonds it wouldn't happen again after he was confronted the first time)

100%. The crowd in the next ODI were all chanting "Symonds is a monkey" with banners and other stuff as well.

The board showed the players that money was more important than integrity. Even in his Cricket Legends interview, Allan Border (who was on the board at the time) said that they were right to back down because of the financial hole it would have left....

Beyond that, it was a line in the sand moment where India were really just starting to flex their muscles, and we were the reigning power in world cricket. Now India would have eventually overtaken us as a cricketing entity anyway, but to roll over so meekly set things in motion that ultimately lead to where we are now.
