You seem to see everything as though it’s Black & White. They need to be a star otherwise get rid of them. Squads don’t work like that, there are many role players, many journeyman.

A major reason our red zone attacking stats are bad because we put everything in to a halfback who can’t create points. That’s on Phil Gould. It’s going to be much harder to find players to compliment Cleary because we gave him a $1 million contract.
I think you will find that what I am saying is exactly the opposite of black and white. You move the pieces around a good spine than can deliver a premiership. Change out players as and when required. Some will be stars, some won't. Credit me with some intelligence. The salary cap precludes you from having stars in every position so you have to be flexible as to where you place your money in the stars in your team. That said, the spine is what will make average players look good. The Storm have used this model extensively and it has been hugely successful.

In respect of Cleary, Gus is pretty clear what he would do if Cleary isn't worth the money. He would move him on and trade him out for another player. It might take a bit of time, but Cleary would almost definitely find suitors.

In terms of the players we missed I found your analysis too black and white. It’s true that there aren’t many players that have gone on to bigger and better things since they left us, but that doesn’t mean we didn’t miss some of them. In my view some were important to the overall balance of the squad.

Re Cleary, sure we might be able to move him. But not whilst his dad is coach, and not without paying some of his salary. Whoever it was responsible at the club for giving Nathan a big contract extension really hurt our salary cap position. You just can’t trade away overpaid players that easily.

Long time reader first time poster, I’d prefer CHN coming back to Penrith, I see yeo playing in lock next year doesn’t off enough out wide. Rhyse Martin would be another option
