But Naden may not be in the team before long, and especially if we get Peachey.

Don’t get me wrong I’d have him on a wing at very least, but I’m not sure that’s the way Cleary would go.

Unless the plan was to move on Edwards I don't see any way wed be signing Thompson as a fullback. That's if It was even true in the first place.

Free to play Naden after June 30. My point re that was Waqa has never had that kind of success converting kicks to points, he seems to have below average hands in the air tbh. If we are going to talk about someone being a target for kicks they have to actually be making something happen from those kicks, Waqa rarely does.

I take your point at Blake’s hands, but I still think he’s a better target than a short guy.

Even if we weren’t chasing Thompson we are seemingly interested in Peachey. I’ve defended that possible move, but not at the expense of Blake.

With Peachey our likely backline is

Edwards
Mansour
Whare
Peachey
To’o

There’s not a kicking target amongst them. At least Blake can get above the defender, possibly bat it back.

For high kicks hes a better target but again it means nothing when hes not converting them, half the time he kncks on which is a bad result for us. Grubbers peachey would convert far better IMO.

Id play Naden over Peach anyday and Whare should be moved on

Point is we don’t have a single target for high kicks without Blake. Naden possibly, but he’s not certain to be in the team.

Peachey is definitely better at grubbers, so why not keep Blake and get Peachey? Then we can have a target on each side.

Better yet have Naden play on the wing instead of Mansour. 3 kicking targets.

Our backline has very little firepower, I’ve been critical of Nathan Cleary but our backs make his job even harder.

My point is blake isn't a target he doesn't score off kicks or setup tries off kicks, kicking to him is wasteful. How is he a target?

He's scored a few off high kicks. I think his butterfingers is a label that stuck from the early days but is untrue now.

He's just injured far too often

Supposedly Ivan loves him, which doesn’t surprise me. Ivan thinks defence before anything.

Don’t get me wrong, defence is important, but I think a back needs to be able to score tries. Whare hasn’t scored more than 5 tries in a season since 2015, he’s only scored more than 10 tries once. He doesn’t worry the defence at all.

Played ten games this year and scored how many off kicks? He is terrible at catching attacking kicks. Bad hands and timing, he regurlalry jumps to early. Hes not threat in the air.

I don't know. The games I've seen this year he hasn't played in.

Fair enough, he has one try for the year, I think it was actually off a grubber from memory.

Waqa certainly SHOULD be a target FOR KICKS but we don't get a result out of it enough to call him a kicking target. IF you are worried about having a kicking target then Nadens your guy, not Waqa.

What about his 14 tries last year? Do we know how many were off kicks? The whole team was playing poorly at the start of this year, just because he only scored one try doesn’t mean much in regards to high kicks. He may not have received good kicks.

FWIW I looked at his error rate, it was bad in the first season, but it’s levelled off to about one error per game. But there’s no specific stats on receiving kicks.

Naden is a good kicking target, but I’d still prefer to keep Blake over moving to Naden. Personally I’d prefer to see them both in the centres, but I don’t see Cleary dropping Whare.

Whare would be one player that wouldn't sulk in NSW Cup so for that reason he should stay. Just not in the top 17.

We all know Blake's potential but what if he nevers gets to it? Also from all reports he is the one that wants out not the club. Is it worth keeping someone in that case?
