Debatable.

Mate watch him closely next chance you get. He rarely is close to catching attacking bombs like the one Naden scored off 5 times out of 10 Waqa knocks that on, he is more effective taping them back but he still fluffs that sometimes by mistiming his jump.

I like Waqa I don’t want him to leave but of all his talent and abilities his aerial threat is one of the last arguments I’d be making as a reason to keep him. His speed, size and footwork are his brilliant attacking attributes and his defence was awesome last season.

Hopefully he stays and we get the chance to see one way or the other.

Yes they all have pace id say johns would probably be the slowest of the 4 but he is very strong and stocky thats why he sometimes fills in at backrow.Naden mcgrady and chrichton are pretty quick mcgrady is a goalkicker as well.We need to shed some guys like blake whare and mansour to give these guys an opportunity to play 1st grade all 3 of those 1st graders are struggling this yr for form and tries.
You have a beautiful Footy mind Mark.

I have no idea whether the Blake rumours are true or not.

I can understand Ivan Cleary is keen to free up some cap space but I don’t understand why he would be so keen to see the back of Blake. While he hasn’t quite developed into the player we all hoped for I think at least part of his issues have a lot to do with our coaching and lack of decent attacking structures.

We have some talented outside backs at the club but they will suffer the same fate as Blake unless we do something about our attack.

I could see a discussion on these boards in 3-4 years time:

“Naden & Chricton just haven’t kicked on like we’d hoped, we need to move them on for the next generation of guys coming through. Otherwise they’ll never get a chance”
Lol, Blake has had 4-5 years of NRL. If the next gen get the same opportunity and achieve as little as Waqa then absolutely we should be looking to move to the next option.

We need performers, not guys that look good in space when given a saloon passage.

My comment wasn’t just about Blake, it was about the constant fascination we have with the juniors coming through. It’s been the case for a long time with panthers fans.

I remember the hype about Mosada Iosefa, Jarrod Sammut, Harry Sjeika etc etc etc

But on Blake I do believe he had (close) to a break out year last year. It’s the style we played this year that stifled him.

There is nothing wrong with being excited about our juniors. Our recent four wins have largely come about by the injection of youth which has been great while at the same time none of the kids being given a shot may ever play more than 50 NRL games. The NRL is full of former Panther juniors and that is something to be proud off. Our biggest issue in recent years is having a great crop of juniors but no one or two individual has developed into an elite or great player. We just haven’t been quite able to unearth a superstar. It will happen and when it does that will probably be our time for real success.

Maybe our fascination with juniors is because the incumbents are generally meh? Years of mediocrity because incumbents don't deliver on potential/expectations means they start getting assessed on actual performance.

Yeah but it’s fanstasy land to think the next guys along will just be better. Sometimes the devil you know..

Some were calling Naden better than Blake after a couple of games, that’s just ridiculous.

It’s more than excitement in my experience, it’s bordering on an obsession.

We definitely need to chill out on that a bit. Though I think you'll find this next crop will take over the team purely because they are the first to really get full advantage of the academy.

I really hope the academy works, but we’ve got to wait and see. Could be a complete bust if we don’t have the right coaches in place.
