Hardly a backup, he starts if we buy him.

33 years old with Luai/Burton in waiting. Massive call.

Luai would have to be above him in the pecking order, you couldn't put Burton in front of him yet tho.

Agreeing with Dave's mate on this. If the Blake attempt is true then Luai is the odd man out. Maybe, just maybe the centre thing at the end of 2019 will be at attempt to re-position him. But if I'm Luai I'd walk from that.

Blake Green should sign with Manly and enjoy a successful year. No guarantee that will happen here at Penrith.

If they didn't believe in Jerome or wanted to move him then why let Maloney go to then have to go to market to recruit an older half?

Jerome is the oldest half we have on the books is he not? It makes sense that they would try and sign a more experienced and mature half.

Tits with Ash Taylor worse imo
Taylors contract was because of Dragons completely reshaping the market of what halves expected to be paid.

Every half saw him get lured away for insane money. Then believed they were worth it... and now clubs are willing to throw that money at any established half with rep potential.

Even worse is you then have clubs throwing insane money at the next generation hoping to grab a star before he becomes one. Probably due to the success of Knights with Ponga though. Warriors offering a 4 year $2m deal to Browne before his debut... it's ridiculous.

Blake Green would be a very Ivan Cleary type signing...

He's a pretty good player don't get me wrong but hes 33, plus we have Luai/Burton waiting in the wings.

I didn't suggest it wasn't. Gould needed to tie Nathan up. If he didn't Nathan could have gone to the Tigers to be coached by his dad, just like the plan was always going to be. Here or the Tigers, it was always going to happen. Gould needed a decent halfback at Penrith, because lets be honest, you don't win comps without one, and I don't think Penrith had too much coming through in the halfback position. That's where it all went belly up for gould though, he couldn't face the fact that to keep Nathan it meant bringing Ivan back, the Clearys' got what they wanted and Gould toddled off.

The raiders just showed there’s a path to a premiership without a decent halfback.

Cronulla won in 2016 with Chad Townsend

Nathan Cleary isn’t good enough to suffer Ivan as our coach. If we were talking the next Alexander I might be able to cop it.

Money. Green would be far cheaper. Also consider money for Maloney, he had to take the jump to the super league now to cash in. And as we know it was always planned for Maloney to jump ship early. Gus/Hook moving on probably wouldn't have changed much for him.

It does make sense to sign an experienced backup/fall back option if our halves fail. I just don't think Green is going to sign that contract. He might be 33 but he had a decent year for the Warriors. He is a starter.

We are surely trying to push Luai out of the club
This would be a huge mistake.

Luai is very close to Brian To'o... and the likes of Leniu, Crichton etc. are a pretty tight knit group. Would be insanely stupid to push him out of the club.

Which is how you know it's likely to happen.

It was planned for Maloney to jump ship early and then Luai to take over, not for Blake Green to jump ship early from the warriors and take over.

Where is he a starter realistically? If he is touring facilities then he has been given permission because he under contract for next season so the warriors don't seem worried about keeping him. He has been a journeymen most of his career, at 33 id say he is looking to play close to home rather than in NZ, he is from the west originally.

Ivan as coach isnt as big an issue as Ivan managing our recruitment and retention.

Ivan has way too much power and responsibility now and isnt good enough to handle it all.

The biggest issue is we have no one to resolve issues when the coach and players might have issues now. If there's an issue Ivan can immediately decide the player is gone and that's the end of it.

Gus atleast tried to resolve issues and while not all of them can be resolved (Moylan a great example). But the players love and respect for him is pretty clear. So many players still turn to him even after they left the club.
