The issue is though. Everyone has a different view on what serious is... So how do you decide what is or isn't bad enough?
Murder = Bad
Petty theft = not so bad

It's a little disingenuous to say that crimes simply cannot be categorised into levels of severity... Actually, I'm pretty sure the courts have a system like that in place now.

Well you need a clear history to be a Shopping Centre santa... yet convicted sex offenders like May and Blake Ferguson are fine to pose for photos with kids and attend junior clinics.

The legislation determines what is serious and what is not.

I have know idea why a Santa needs a clear record and school teachers do not. That sounds pretty stupid to me.

You don’t need a clear criminal history to get a WWVP or to be a teacher. Plenty of teachers have committed crimes.

It comes down to the crime type.

For instance
Someone who has previously been convicted of drink driving for instance, can still obtain a WWVP and be a teacher.

or

Someone who is convicted of an offence involving violence, cannot obtain a security licence.

Crime types people, it’s all about the crime types.

That is true, however, if some cases, e.g. nurses, repeated driving under the influence offenses can inhibit them, as a pattern could be argued.

There is no legislation as too what criminal history you allow to work for. The market decides that and type of work etc

That’s not right there are many occupations you cannot work in unless the appropriate working with children checks/clearances Are met. As a semi retired person I could not drive for Uber or my other casual job with Penrith Council without meeting the work with children requirements and other categories of criminal offences which would of excluded me from continuing in the application process.

That is my point. Employers have the right to refuse employment on criminal history.

My point was take Uber you need a clean driving history whereas a warehouse would likely overlook such offence.

It is up to that workplace how strict they be

Yes but it is not up to the employer in many instances. It is legislated which I assume was the point Luke was making. For example if you have a previous conviction for a certain type of offence say possession of child pornography you are unable to get a job in child care. The employer has no say or discretion is it legislated.

The thing that annoys me about May is I doubt another player gets the support he did. He even had the Cleary’s turn up to his sentencing. Had it been a lower grader, or maybe someone who wasn’t friends with the Cleary’s he’d have been out on his ear. Reeks of nepotism by proxy.

Gee that is harsh. Obviously Nathan Cleary came to the hearings because he is Nathan's mate. I'm sure even if he was a plumber if he was a close mate he'd still turn up.

Cause that's what best mates do.

Yep I agree talent does get you extra chances in all areas of life. Always has always will.

That is true. Working with children check (which I had to do at regular intervals) is part of life as an educator.

They have to be able to say why.

Why does T Mays offence prohibit him from playing rugby league for the Panthers.

Why would Michael Jennings Criminal History stop him from playing for Parra.

Employers can’t just say No! You have a criminal history, unless they can show that it effects the role they are applying for. It’s discrimination otherwise.

So why was Ivan there? He was being sentenced for a reasonably serious crime, especially in the current environment, bad look for the club to have the coach turn up.
