No way that happens though. He would get 'homesick' or something and upgrade the deal mid contract
Yeah probably

I could be very wrong but I swear I read something a few years ago about Whares contract having an injury clause in it. I think it was in the Western Weekender but I could be very wrong too. Might help with medical retirement if it does exist.Be interesting to see what Whare is on dollar wise, could be $400k+ as he was a Kiwi international when he signed his current contract. Can’t imagine him leaving before 2022 medical retirement with both insurance company and NRL agreeing would be a bridge to far.
Charlie's manager needs to put down the glass bbq. 2 mill over 4 years is nuts for 100 minutes of NRL & 2 injuries.
There has been a few reports that Charlies Manager is a greedy merkin. To be honest with, soc123, this is an opinion based article. There has been no quotes what so ever.

There never is Jane. The media have to find something to write about and clearly there is going to be a lot to talk and speculation around Charlie Staines given his unexpected fairytale start to his career.
We wen’t through a period of adjusting our salary cap and roster which saw the likes of RCG, Blake, DWZ, Moylan, Cartwright & numerous other lesser players leave. It’s clear we needed to make those tough decisions for the better good of the club and we are benefitting from those decisions now.
We currently find ourselves in a position where we are having a highly successful season with the new emergence of some serious talents which now places us again in a position where we have to make some tough decisions and tough calls.
There is going to be some pain in the near future, whether this year or next, and no doubt we will be disappointed when we learn we cannot retain whoever it may be but It is what it is.
I think the most important aspect around all this is somehow we find the money to continue to support our junior pathways in our local junior district and Central West of NSW. When you look at where we are at in 2020 the side is basically stacked with players who have come through our system supplemented by a handful of astute acquisitions. We really are a development club as opposed to a buying club.

I don’t think there are too many clubs currently with too much room there salary cap to be able to splash $2M on Charlie Staines at this early stage of his career. If you can believe what you read in the papers/media most clubs have little room to move under the cap including the likes of Wests Tigers who are in desperate need of moving on some big earners before they could make a play for Staines. If the kid can get anywhere near that sort of money elsewhere then and chooses to take the cash I would wish him well and I would not expect us to attempt to match such an offer. I have no idea what we can competitively offer him but I don’t expect us to ruin management of our cap to retain him.
On the issue of medical retirement for Dean Whare he has sustained lot’s of injuries including his most recent toe injury. I don’t think he currently has a sufficiently ‘chronic’ injury or injuries that prevents him currently from continuing to play so I personally don’t believe he meets the criteria for a medical retirement.
There’s actually quite a few clubs with significant cap space in 2022. Lots of big names off contract or likely to retire. It’ll be more about who needs a fullback.

I love the last one, kinda think its very relevant this week with wests this weekend, maybe if they weren't so greedy thinking to poach nate away from us, they might have made improvements with ivan still there compared to the mediocre 9th dwelling side they still areI think the Cows have plenty of promising players all over the park. They are a wonderfully skilful team.
I'd just love a coach to say: 'This is a quick fix, top 4 this year'. You'd never hear it said publicly. Its always doom and gloom for obvious reasons, easiest way for a coach/board to get a stay of execution.
Some of my favourites:
'We need to re-build...it will take time'
'Its not my squad'
'Its going to take years to fix this salary cap mess'
'Its a young squad'
'We need time to let the spine gel'
'Get on the bus'
Masked Panther: Crichton going nowhere
Fear not Panthers fans, exciting centre Stephen Crichton won’t be going anywhere. He may not have officially signed on the dotted line yet, but the 19-year-old will be at the club until at least the end of 2024. I’m told there’s a few administrative hold-ups in the back end delaying an official announcement, but Crichton is well and truly locked in at the foot of the Mountains.
A number of journalists out there seem determined to convince Matt Burton that he should be looking elsewhere given he can’t find his way into Penrith’s first grade team. As I reported a few weeks ago, Burton is going nowhere and tabloid headlines won’t change that. The 20-year-old is keen to stay at Penrith to see what eventuates. The club won’t keep him forever if a first grade spot doesn’t eventually arise, but he’s got no intention of a departure any time soon.
Charlie Staines has been given permission to test the open market but he too would prefer to stay at Penrith.
