That day we've all been waiting for has finally arrived!! Semi Final Game Day!!!! This is it, we take on the Eels in a Semi Final tonight, our biggest game of the Season so far no doubt. You don't need me to tell you how huge tonight is, it's a massive occasion! Semi Final Footy. Win, and we're through to yet another Preliminary Final and another step closer to potential Glory, lose, and that's it, we're gone. So the stakes are incredibly high tonight. There's no second chances, there's no next week, it's do or die. This is a Finals game, knock out Footy so previous form is out the window and anything can happen on the day.

We go up against a Parra side that is going to throw absolutely everything at us. Their form may have been a bit indifferent in recent times but if things click for them on the day, they are one of the toughest sides in this years competition to beat, I have no doubt about that. They might be without their two wingers and a bench forward but there's still class all over the park in Gutherson, Jennings, Moses, Dylan Brown, RCG, Mahoney, Paulo, Nathan Brown, the list goes on really. The key I think is going to be matching their forwards, that's going to be a great battle. From their we must also limit both Gutherson and Moses' impact. Against a fired up Eels, this is all easier said than done but it's absolutely crucial we do it if we want to advance to a Preliminary Final.

I feel like I say the same thing in regards to our performance every week but it really is this simple. For us, we need to hold the ball to be in with a chance of taking this game. We all know what kind of side we are when we complete highly, if we can do that, Parra will find us hard to stop. But then again, we all know what kind of side we are when we don't complete well so we need to hold onto the ball, apply that pressure, put some fatigue into them and hopefully, the rest will flow from there. Hopefully our attack is just as on as it has been in recent times and our defence needs to be better. I'd also like to see us start better. Last week was a bit different but we can't let Parra get a big early lead or they'll be hard to run down.

So yea, huge Semi Final game tonight!! I just really hope the boys are fired up and ready to go, I know I am!! We can do this! I really feel like our destiny this Season is in our own hands! Let's get behind our team!! Come on boys!!

Huge news with Jennings out! He's been suspended by the NRL because he returned a positive test for a banned substance. That's huge!

The forward battle becomes even more key now. They have a re-jigged backline so we need to make it as hard as we possibly can for their backs but getting over their forwards.

Revealed - The secret to SuA’s big hits

Daniel Su’A was rummaging through the family garage the other day when he came across an old blue tackling bag. His first instinct was to drag it out, take a photo and send it to his son, South Sydney backrower Jaydn Su’A.

“I was no good at defending and the old man took me out the front and taught me a couple of his tricks,” Jaydn Su’A said.

“We had this blue tackle pad. He sent me a photo of it the other day. He found it in the garage. My youngest brother was using it.

“I started cracking up laughing. We had a lot of good memories with that bag — we had a few tears and I guess a lot of blood as well.

“He helped me a lot growing up with my tackle technique. I guess it is a good reward for him to see what we worked on a lot when we were younger, paying off now.

“I remember one time he told me he wasn’t coming to my game. I was probably about 10 or 11 years old. I was against another school and all my mates were in the team.

“I was mucking around and falling off tackles, and getting bumped off by the littlest of guys. I remember the whistle blew and we were all laughing.

“I looked up and I saw my dad was there. He looked at me and went straight to the car. As soon as I got home, that pad was at the front and I knew that was the afternoon.”

The tackle bag Souths player Jaidyn Su’A honed his technique on as a kid

They were hours well spent. Su’A is now one of the most damaging defenders in the game, a player who leaves his bone-jarring mark on his opponents on a weekly basis.

Born in New Zealand, his family moved to Brisbane when he was two and his ascent began on one of the NRL’s most fertile breeding grounds – Logan, an area in Brisbane that has produced some of rugby league’s finest, among the current crew the likes of Cameron Smith and Josh Papalii.

Su’A dabbled in rugby union at high school but he was always destined to play for the Broncos, having been part of their system from the age of 14.

He debuted as an 18-year-old under Wayne Bennett in 2018 but a broken ankle soured the next year and he struggled to make his mark when Anthony Seibold arrived.

Seibold had chased Su’A when he as in charge at Souths. Next minute, he was ushering him out the door.

“I wanted to stay in Brisbane and I was playing some pretty good footy at the time,” Su’A recalled.

“I didn’t want to change anything. It is funny how it works out. He (Seibold) was the coach at Souths that wanted me.

“He came to Brisbane and we had a good relationship. I started the year for him and I was underdone — I was coming back from injuries.

“I started the year poorly and found myself out of the squad. He was upfront and honest with where I stood in the team and the plan moving forward.

“It is hard to hear that kind of stuff. I had a relationship with Wayne as well and he told me there were opportunities down here in Sydney.

“He knew that it was going to be hard for me to come down here and leave my family behind. The thing that got me there was he told me he knew what my potential was and he told me he could get me there.

“As soon as I heard those words I knew that was best for my career and my future. Thank God I came down here.”

Su’A has been a mainstay under Bennett, patrolling the right-hand edge of the Rabbitohs’ defensive line with equal parts menace and bad intentions.

At times over the past two years, his aggression has got the better of him. For the most part, he has vindicated the faith that was placed in him by South Sydney’s seven-time premiership winning coach.

“He gave me my debut at 18 years old,” Su’A said. “Being as young as I was when I made my debut, he had a lot of faith in me and gave me a lot of confidence.

“I looked at him as more than a coach. He helped me a lot with my confidence and my role in the team.

“I don’t think he plans to have his players look at him that way but that is just the kind of person he is.

“I guess because of that everyone loves playing for him and playing under him.”

Bennett has been one of his biggest advocates, but his family remain his greatest supporters and sometimes harshest critics. His tight relationship with his family has made this season one his most challenging given the restrictions that have been placed on crossing the Queensland border.

Last year, when the borders were open and interstate travel was a breeze, he went home whenever he got the chance. This year, he has been stranded in Sydney, too far from home. Thankfully, the telephone is never far away.

“Growing up (my dad) was my toughest critic and he is still the same,” Su’A said.

“He calls me before every game. I have got it to the point now where he does find a few things to fault in my game and he does let me know about it, but he is not as hard as he once was.

“He knows Wayne and the coaching staff can deal with it. I had never been away from my family. It was all new to me.

“At first it was all right and I was able to get home because it was only an hour flight. I went home every fortnight. This year has been rough. I have only been home twice this year.

“It has definitely been a struggle. Hopefully we can finish the season on a high and I can go home and see my family.”

The signs are promising. Souths have been rampant in recent weeks and they head into Saturday night’s final against Parramatta at Bankwest Stadium with confidence soaring.

They scored at will against the Sydney Roosters and did the same against Newcastle on the opening weekend of the finals.

Many believe the same will happen against a Parramatta side dealing with injury problems. Su’A is about to enter the last year of his contract and for all his love of Brisbane and his admiration for the Broncos, he wants his future to be at South Sydney.

“I have only played for two clubs – I have never felt a connection between the boys — even our board — (like I have at Souths),” Su’A said.

“It is a strong club and definitely a club I enjoy playing for. In terms of the contract negotiations and stuff like that, all I can do is play consistent footy. If I can do that, I can stay here and play for the club I love.

“I had been at the Broncos since I was 14. Bro, I was a diehard Broncos fan. Then I debuted and played for them and felt like I had the world at my feet.

“It is funny how it can get taken away just like that. I had to make the move down to Sydney, I was nervous and a bit anxious.

“But I am so happy I made the move. This club means a lot to me now. Even when I am walking the street, my whole street are Souths fans.

“It is crazy to see how much this club does for the community as well. It speaks a lot about the people Souths want playing in the jersey.

“As I said, I love Souths and hopefully I can stay.”

Boys we aren't winning this game at the moment... but atleast the Roosters lost last night :rofl:
That's not Capewell playing fullback for Souths is it, remember Capewell, couldn't and just damm wouldn't tackle, plumb refused to tackle, well that's Corey Allen, will not tackle at all, didn't get near to stopping any of the three trys Parra scored. Like Capewell 'Oh gees I was just to late or whoops miss im' remember the Best try for Newcastle last week, same thing, Best sprints down the side line, Allen draws level and waves his hands/forearms at Best, Best scores.
I'd much rather have Johnston at full back.

Corey Allan is good when you are dominant - he is too slow in defence and can’t cover tackle.
Gagai needs to learn to pass.
Paulo is going well

Apart from Parra scoring 3 in about 10 minutes after Corey Allan allegedly playing at a Parra kick, Souths were the better team all night.
