1 game against a poor side. Need to see more from him before you can move someone out of a working spine. The spine went well last season well before the finals choke

Spot on.

Reminds me of Caleb Aekins' debut match when he ran for 303m. Everyone memorised that stat, and whenever he failed to fire, it was all "but he ran for over 300m - he has it in him!".

I'm sure Laurie has some talent - but let's not go sacking everyone in our Top 17 because of the Grand Final debacle.

It’s weird after such a dominating season and all the smugness only 1 panther player can make the origin teams
A troll I know but I could not agree more. I think there is a delay between good form at club level and rep selection. That is why we're still seeing so many Dragons and Broncos in these sides. Some sides just get more players in rep sides for some reason, regardless of form.

He also had a nice cut out ball for a try assist. Point is metres gained isn't an issue for Luarie, it wasn't for Aekins either so your example doesn't make sense in the context of the discussion. Frankpin said we'd miss Edwards metres and that's not accurate.

I put it down to good overall team performance Vs individual players standing out as much (though we had some stand outs in the comp in my opinion)

Our right side needs a tweek but we dominated 20 rounds behind a great pack and a spine that worked well together

I wouldnt be moving Dylan yet but eventually they have to make a decision due to the salary cap. I would definitely be looking to see more of Laurie when the chance to play him came up. Laurie flat out has ball playing skills Dylan will never have.

The switching of Tyrone May and Edwards for set plays clearly shows they want a fullback who can play like a five eighth and after about the second time we did that last season it became pretty obvious what was coming every time Dylan drifted outside May close to the line so its not really a solution to needing a ball playing full back. I doubt they are willing to sacrifice to much on the defensive side but Laurie has been a full back forever there is no reason to suggest they would be sacrificing a lot with Laurie. I think will see him or someone else transitioned into the fullback role over the course of next season.

Switching came during Aekins 2nd stint. Also starting the long cut out pass. You have no such issue if you move Burton to right centre

They did it with Edwards and May in the GF and against Souths. You would have the exact same issue if you put Burton there and have him and Edwards switch, the play becomes obvious.

Penrith’s ploy to keep playmaker a Panther
Will it be enough to ward off the rival clubs?

NOVEMBER 4, 2020

The Penrith Panthers are so eager to keep Matt Burton, that they are willing to spend the pre-season training the 20-year-old in multiple positions, as per reports in The Australian.

Senior sports writer Brent Read stated on Monday that the ploy was put in place to find a place for Burton in the Panther’s starting lineup next season, as well as to ward off the big-money offers that have been tabled for the Dubbo product.

Following November 1, Burton, now in the final year of his deal, was able to begin fielding proposals from rival clubs, with Canterbury quick to state their interest in luring the fringe Panther up the M4.

They are unlikely to be the only serious suitor, however, Penrith won’t be releasing their claws without a fight.

The club’s brass is understood to already be in negotiations with Burton and his management, but with both the Panther’s halves positions locked up by Jarome Luai and Nathan Cleary respectively, they will be forced to think outside the box.

Cleary, currently inside the New South Wales Origin bubble, will be impossible to shift from the seven jersey and Luai, also in the final year of his contract, is expected to secure a rich extension from the club.

Due to this, if Burton wishes to play first-grade with Penrith in 2021, it seems almost impossible that it will be in either the six or seven jersey.

It is for this reason that the Panthers have devised the plan to teach the mature aged recruit to play in the centres as well as the back row.

It is yet to be seen whether the Panther’s ploy will yield dividends, as neither Burton or his management have spoken publicly as of yet.

Penrith’s Grand Final squad has already begun eroding, with bearded winger Josh Mansour set to depart the runners up this off-season.

Like Burton and Luai, Mansour has a year left to run on his contract, however, Read has reported that Penrith have expressed to the veteran that he is free to depart the club.

Read also suggested that Mansour was on the radar of the West Tigers due to ambiguity surrounding Josh Addo-Carr’s return to Leichhardt.

Addo-Carr has already signed an agreement to re-join the Sydney based club for the 2021 season should he be released by the Melbourne. However, there were suggestions earlier in the week that the speedster may stay with the Storm.

Wests Chairman Lee Hagipantelis claimed he had been in contact with Addo-Carr’s management and that the deal was still likely to proceed, irrespective of innuendo.

“We understand that Josh’s intention is subject to a release from Melbourne to return to Sydney,” Hagipantelis said.

Yeah because it worked Barrett kept it going. Probably one of the bad decisions he made

Gutho at centre is a shockingly bad decision. Unlike Turbo and Wighton he's not a big powerful body to play out of position at centre.

Not a fan of the backrow picked either. Form was ignored completely.

Our side is pretty average. But Queensland have a terrible side so Fittler cant really f**k it up.

I dont care if our players make it in or not. Just dont rate some selections that did make it in. If our guys don't play they cant get hurt and should be able to have full pre-seasons.

Would be heartbroken if one did something requiring surgery. It feels like a fake origin series. So not the same glamour for mine
