Josh Coric is a tough prop who is signed to St George Illawarra for the next four years
Connor Muhleisen is a sharp dummy half on Train and Trial.
Maybe @George Dragon can fill everybody in on these.
thanks in advance George.
Don't know much about Jaiyden. He was in Storm system for a while played a few games in 19 for East Tigers QLD.
I believe Tony Guilfoyle recommended him. Looks to have bulked up over 2020 year. Can play second row, maybe a smokie for 29th spot.
Josh is a big boy and getting bigger only has a lower grade contract but I thnk he will be fast tracked.
Connor is a decent player but would only be a Flegg player.
Nice summary, thanks. So, as we enter the Christmas break, this is the state of play re; our squad (excuse any error)
Backs: - 8
Williame, Ramsey, Periera, Matt Feagai, Dufty, Max Feagai, Lomax, Ravalawa
Interesting competition for wing spots and left centre. Dufty will start at fb.
Halves: - 4
Clune, Hunt, Norman, Sullivan
Probably Hunt amd Norman to start. Norman under the most pressure to hold his spot.
Hooker: 2
McInnes, Brittain
I don't see Ben Hunt in a permanent hooking role, maybe a fill-in role. McInnes to start.
Props: - 8
Lawrie, Alvaro, Blacker, Kerr, Ellis, Faamausili, Merrin, Vaughan
Vaughan, Kerr, Lawrie and possibly Faamausili to start the season. Merrin will be lucky to see any 1st grade in 2021.
Edge/Lock: 5
Bird*, DeBelin**, Ford, Sims, Fuimaono
* Bird more a utility covering edge, lock and even centre.
** DeBelin we all know the situation here.
These areas are our weakest no doubt. Bird yet to get fit, JDB uncertainty, our edge relies on Sims, who last season was well below standard, Ford who is learning his trade and Fuimaono who, well, not sure where he fits in.
Total = 27
Noted that DeBelins contract is not registered with the NRL, so technically he is not a member of the squad at present (ie: 26 registered players)
Development squad: 4
SSE (back), H. Lomax (forward), Sloane (back), Amone (back)
Apparantley room for 2 more. Maybe some additions like Coric or Schiller.
Rumoured: 1
Magoulias - can mainly play lock and edge.
If signed = 28
Train and Trial = 1
Jaiyden Hunt (forward)
If convert to full contract = 29
I believe this is where we stand at present, if I've missed anyone please add.
I’m not prepared to write Merrin off so easily he can still offer ball playing stills at Lock, after the offseason he’ll be fit & fired up to make his final year a good one. Realistically Bird will probably start the season on the bench as his body gets conditioned to contact again. Hook isn’t going to rush him. If there’s anything to the Magoulias rumours Bird would be perfect at 6 to replace Norman once his form inevitably drops. Sullivan & Clune to CC to develop a combination because they will be our halves in 2022 once Hunt switches to 9 on a full time basis. So, as we enter the Christmas break, this is the state of play re; our squad (excuse any error)

I'd say in Debelin's absence, Bird and Merrin will share the lock duties. Too many props ahead of Merrin these days.I’m not prepared to write Merrin off so easily he can still offer ball playing stills at Lock, after the offseason he’ll be fit & fired up to make his final year a good one. That’s not a bad team, some guts up front & strike out wide. Love to see Lomax & Feagai get early ball & challenge the defenceI'd say in Debelin's absence, Bird and Merrin will share the lock duties. Too many props ahead of Merrin these days.
My thoughts are that Vaughan, Kerr, Faamausili and Alvaro will be our in our round 1 prop rotation with Lawrie, Ellis, Blacker and possibly the new prop Hunt starting in Canterbury Cup.
I can see a real contest for prop positions in 2021 so all candidates will need to perform to play in the NRL side.

Yes, and I'd like to see Griffin put both our centres on the same side in attack sometimes. With Dufty chiming through as well, it might be a big problem for some more structured teams. That’s not a bad team, some guts up front & strike out wide. Hey Possm aren’t you going to miss our predicable block plays on tackle 4?Yes, and I'd like to see Griffin put both our centres on the same side in attack sometimes. With Dufty chiming through as well, it might be a big problem for some more structured teams.

I’ve often thought about Duf at 5/8 but he’d be a turnstile in defence his tackle efficiency is only 71% at fullback where he’s only required to make a handful of tackles. No it’s FB or nothing for Dufty.Looking at the backs, we will have a fair bit of size in Lomax, Ravalawa and Feagai and I would be happy to see a trail game with Dufty at 5/8 and Ramsey at fullback, as Dufty possesses a good running and passing game and reads the opposition defence well.
When you first suggested Dufty should be considered at five eighth earlier in the year, I was concerned that he may be too much of a liability in defence, however with the younger players bulking up, they should be able to provide cover and minimise Dufty's defensive effort.

We’d need to get Beau Scott out of retirement (one of my all time favourite players)You may be correct Maddragon99, however playing in the backline would allow Dufty to line up his opposite player before he hits full speed, whist at fullback the attacking player is generally flat out when they meet.
There have been a number of smallish 5/8s who have been only fair in defence whilst excelling in other departments such as Luke Keary and Darren Lockyer. I would think that Dufty may complement Hunt at halfback whilst linking well with the outside backs.
I won't miss it at all. I'm looking forward to some imaginative attacking plays and good defensive structures in 2021.Hey Possm aren’t you going to miss our predicable block plays on tackle 4?
We will miss Frizell and De Belin in our backrow. Let's hope Sims gets back to his best form and Ford continues to improve. If Bird is fully fit, he will be a great fill-in at lock. We’d need to get Beau Scott out of retirement (one of my all time favourite players)
