Agreed.

Showed bursts of brilliance during his 12 seasons in the NRL (e.g. Parramatta's run to the 2009 Grand Final), but lacked the consistency of other standout players during his career (2006-18) such as Slater, Smith, Cronk, Inglis etc. Also, looking back, not being in an winning NRL premiership side is something he'll be disappointed with.

Hayne was way more consistent than Inglis.
Cronk was consistent, but was just a glorified Noel Goldthorp with brilliant players around him and a brilliant coach his whole career. He didnt have great skills. Hayne had the greatest skills out of those listed and was always far more brilliant than each of those but he was in crap teams and was not able to be a leader due to his personality and lack of role models and he always had crap coaches unfortunately.
Even in years Hayne didnt get Dally M awards he was easily the best player on all the teams he played in especially NSW.

Stripping the award is silly and virtue signalling at its best.

The Dally M isn't an honorary award like Australian of the year for example. It is an award based on performance and has tangible metrics. The NRL can try and distance themselves from him all they want but nothing will change the fact he was the best player that year and a superstar in the competition.

There were those who wanted Langlands stripped of his immortal status even though he was never convicted and was totally unable to enter a plea in court due to dementia. These people are voracious.
