Effective cap management does not allow for overpaying of players above what the club believes they are reasonably worth to them.

If we offer Moses $1 million a season, and the (let's say, for example) Roosters come in and offer $1.25 million, effective cap management - much to the chagrin of fans - is to let the player go.

Seeing players leave is not a sign of ineffective cap management.

Reed over Gutho ? You’ll struggle to find many who support you with that concept. Not disagreeing that his manager is a tool, but that should not cloud what he does for our squad.

If the eels win two comps would you concerned about losing your halves? A team has success it’s only natural other teams would come picking the eyes out of their squad. Especially the premiership winning spine.

Very pleased to hear Parra are interested in signing Herbie Farnworth according to ABC Grandstand. Dolphins considered favourite's to sign him but Parra in calculations. Maybe Waqa stays wing long-term....

Herbie would be an awesome get signing if we managed it. He is one of my favorite players. Great strike weapon, super fast and good defender. But like you said it would be very surprising if we got him to move from QLD. We don't have the type of coach or recruitment staff that can make the difference in these sorts of negotiations.

If the money is similar he would probably rather stay in QLD and play under super coach then come to Parra even though we are the way stronger team that could give him instant success.

I feel like going for Herbie means they don't rate Laizou,Sivo,Dunster,Simmonson and want better options.

True and like you said very disappointing in our development system and players, but if they are right and all are weak options then lets hope our club staff is good enough to convince someone as good as Herbie to sign with us, the way stronger club option then the Dolphins would be.

If he were to sign with the Dolphins it would mean he is swapping one also ran, no semis team for another.

Exactly, you compare how Gutherson was with his contract renewal with how Cleary is with his and one is left with no doubt as to Guth's leadership in building culture of a loyal team of players. He is the captain of a team that hasn't won in longer than any other club and that is the example he sets. Not good.

I am on the fence. Historically we have a very hard time finding a good dummy half and an easy time finding fullbacks.

Anyway, I'd be trying to extend now because he and Dylan Brown are at the moment the second best halves combination in the competition. A diligent club would extend both of them before November. I'd give Moses $1m a year and Brown $850K with increases based on how much the cap will increase.

In addition we should sign someone like Farnworth and let Sivo go. We don't need him. It would be nice to have him back but I wouldn't be flirting with the idea of Semi returning. He is a risky signing.

I'd possibly be extending Matterson for the right price and signing Nikora from the Sharks and Hethrington from the Dogs. I'd also be inquiring on Savage from the Raiders and Tapine although both are under contract. Means nothing these days if the the players doesn't want to be here.

Everyone else leaving is on under 250k. We can probably save 150k on Mattersons last contract.
Penisini will need an upgrade. D.Brown prob will also.
At best we can f**k Sivo off and have 400k there. We could afford guys like Doorey from the Dogs and Mariner. Not much else.

Semantics. My point was calling it a clause makes it sound like some bizarre and unique condition he tricked us into. It's just a player option. We also have club and mutual options in the final year of some of our players' contracts.

Nearly every good player as a player option.

If our club did rate Simmonson and Russel and long term NRL options then guys like Haze are great back ups.
Herbie is a great player but it means a guy like Simmonson or Russel plays NSW cup.

I would put Russell on one wing and Blake on the other with Herbie and Penisini in the centres. That is a very strong defensive and super quick offensive backline. We could do some real damage with a strong settled backline like that. All big strong and fast and 3 of them are still young and growing and will only get stronger. When I look at Herbie now from a couple of seasons ago he has filled out a little and gotten stronger and breaks through with a little more power now and will only get even stronger in a season or two and so will the others.

I would love to see this happen.
