NRL2 Second Division

because it’s taken two decades to get two teams in. How long before we have the potentially 7 or 8 more teams in it?

not to mention some places will never be big enough to host an nrl club, at the moment there really isn’t a viable second option. the state comps are not set up as genuine comps so many new clubs coming in won’t be able to compete Unless directly linked to an nrl club.

You think it's more feasible that an NRL will create an entire new competition, fund it, administer it and run it than admitting 1 or 2 expansion teams in the next Decade or so?

Sharks would be a good Nrl2 feeder team for the Nrl. Then the Dragons reclaim there territory from Kogarah, all the way to the Southcoast. A juggernaut reborned an feared. Also opens up a spot for Perth Pirates or Melbourne 2.

Perth & Darwin should join Qld Cup

But everything starts with the NRL RG being setup first
and who pays for it? There’s certainly not enough revenue in that comp to sustainably put a team there. And how do you compete when every decent jnr is going to move to a club with direct nrl pathway.

Cronulla, St George and Wests should be dropped back to NRL2. Build the South Sydney Rabbitohs as the main team for all of Southern Sydney.
You don't have a great knowledge of Greater Sydney and Surrounds

Wests are not in Southern Sydney for starters.- Wests Tigers are inner city and Liverpool Macarthur/Group 6

South Sydney are inner city located and have no connection whatsoever with Southern Sydney

https://en.wikipedia.org/ wiki/Southern_Sydney

It's St George Illawarra which includes the South Coast right down to the Victorian Border

Cronulla own their own ground and are financially secure

NRL Clubs received 10 mill or so grants each year so no Sydney Club is going anywhere

Since NRL1 was born out of the NSWRL and caters to the history and traditions of the NSWRL clubs, NRL2 should be based on the BRL/Queensland Cup and its teams' history and traditions. That means Newtown Jets and Western Suburbs Magpies can enter, but only if they change their names. North Sydney can remain as the Bears as there's no need for Burleigh to be in this competition when the Titans are just a few KMs away. I don't see the need for Sydney Wests to be in it.

Adelaide Rams
Brisbane Firehawks
Cairns Cyclones
Central Coast RLFC
Central Queensland Capras
Fiji RLFC
Illawarra Steelers
Ipswich Jets
Logan Magpies
Mackay Cutters
New Caledonia XIII
Newtown RLFC
North Sydney Bears
PNG Hunters
Sunshine Coast Falcons
West Coast Pirates
ridiculous - why would Newtown who are a feeder team for Cronulla and Western Suburbs who are Wests Tigers join another comp and if they did have to change their name in any case especially one in Queensland

Cant be arsed to look but pretty sure most of the main stream comps have a genuine second tier comp of some sort in the country. RL in England, AF and Baseball in USA, Basketball in Europe,

Its not a problem for a reserve grade comp, it is for a genuine comp you want to use to grow the game beyond just the 17 clubs in the NRL.
There is no second division in baseball

You have Rookie Leagues/ Single A / Double A/ Triple A - known as Minor Leagues then Major League.

The teams that play in these minor leagues are affiliated with MLB clubs.

The minor leagues are basically pathways to Major League

Put it this way, if it future proofed all nine Sydney clubs and gave Newtown and North Sydney more prominence than the NSW Cup provides then they would think about it.

Because they're never getting a spot in NRL1 and the Ipswich Jets are a much larger and more powerful club. The Ipswich region will one day be big enough to support a team of its own. NSW Cup will never be worth anything to the broadcasters.

These people must think that money grows on trees who are advocating for a second division - where is the money coming from including sponsors let alone the players and fans
$30m per annum from a streaming service would be enough to fund ten teams. There's not a lot of content available right now and streaming companies need a product to lure in customers. I cannot see why Ch9/Stan wouldn't put up that sort of money to have an NRL2 competition in addition to the three NRL games they already have on FTA and 9Now. If they get rid of onionball next year then the $33m per annum they spend on that can go to this.

The ARLC should be looking at this as a possibility to keep onionball away from their FTA broadcast partner.
