Sin bins are never good but getting it before half time means the team gets a break in the middle of it and come out fresh for the last 6 or so minutes. I thought they would’ve been made of sterner stuff tbh. It certainly wouldn’t have bothered the 2006-13 teams.

QLD easily repelled NSW when down to 12 for the first 8 minutes, but were gassed after that. Everyone knew this would be the outcome from the moment it happened

We get about 50 minutes out of Tapine and Papalii a game. Papalii looking like a bowling ball makes people think he's an impact forward but he's a metre getter for us.

Who do you take off to play him though? It would have to be an 80min player and therefore a waste.

If by some miracle there are no injuries, binning or HIAs in Game 3, he will play 50+.

Channel 9s coverage is so shallow, that even with 58 sideline reporters don't provide any info on this. It's just "Tino has been on the bench for 45mins!"

Slater has got to get his interchange fixed.
Tino only playing 40 minutes and Papalii playing 26 is just simply not giving yourself the best chance to win

Collins, Arrow and Carrigan are all fine players, but they are not close to Papa or Tino. The rotation should be about featuring Tino and Papalii as the driving force of the QLD pack, with the other middle forwards supporting and spelling them as required.

If you're only going to play Papalii 20-25 minutes, pick someone else, short burst impact is not his game anymore and hasnt been for years. He's a big minutes, big motor middle now

Genuine question, when is the last time a NSW player was sin binned in Origin?

I’m not sure exactly what year it was but it was Michael Jennings.
Last send off in origin was Trent Waterhouse.

I never got this idea of being binned to avoid the other team getting a try. It’s much better to give a try away rather then being down a man and even more points come flooding in. I remember Cooper Cronk held back a player when there was a line break and was binned. NSW scored built on that and won the game. Smith in the post match interview was saying Cronk did the right thing - I don’t get it.

Not sure how anyone with a non-bias brain can think that was not deserving of a sin binning.

Many news reports have it incorrect, there were FIVE infringements which led to the binning.

Unwarranted? It was the 4th penalty for slowing the ruck on the Qld tryline in about 90 seconds. If positions were reversed you'd be fine with it.

I agree, if any team is conceding that many penalties in such a short time, someone should go to the bin, my issue is that these weren't penalties in Game 1, it was ref'd differently and I can't help but think that Fittler's little spiel in the presser after the first game is the reason why

Mate you had the ball for more than half of that sin binning period and it occured right at halftime to freshen your players up.

A player in the bin does not tire a team out to get pumped by 30. Queensland were tired the last 20 of game 1 as well. NSW just kept letting pressure if with dumb mistakes when they started to get on a roll. Its a poor bench rotation doing that.

Tino and Papali can offer more than is being asked of them. That comes back to Slater not using his players correctly.

The biggest difference IMO was that NSW actually had a second kicker.

QLD had it easy in game 1 by knowing Cleary would get the ball for every kick and unlike Munster doesn't have the ability to step and take off.

Burton comes in and takes all the pressure off while putting in him some great kicks himself.

Also, I may be remembering wrong but did Billy actually try and play Hunt and Grant at the same time in the middle of the first half (prior to the sin bin)? If so that was an interesting move...

Giving away a penalty or even getting binned is always the right choice if it means stopping a certain try

You'd rather stop certain points and at least have the chance of stopping more, even if your team is down a man, than letting points in. History has shown many a team lifting during their period down to 12 and even going on to score points. Its certainly not a given that "more points come flooding in"

I think that's a credit to there team ethos and morals, that they are such cleanskins.

Last NSW player I recall getting binned was Jimmy Roberts in 2018 Game 2
